why not just go downriver on amazon?

seems easiest way for rescue. let the river do the work

I was wondering that myself. The only explanation I could think of was that he was in such a panic to get away from the two thugs, he simply wasn't thinking straight. If there was a good reason for not floating downstream, neither he nor the writer of the episode shared it with us.

He knew how far downriver a settlement was. Maybe the map showed a settlement closer upstream.

Still the intelligent decision is to go downstream. He didn't make it past the 1st rapids.

i think he just wanted to continue his adventure. maybe get another guide. but he was so incompetent, he should have known his adventure was over.

If you watched the entire episode you would have seen that his canoe ripped apart in a part of the river that had a very rough/fast current. He and his dog were thrown from the shattered canoe and he fortunately made it to shore. He and the dog connected later...in fact, I believe it stated that the dog travelled 40 miles to make it back to his 'master' only to become food for him later, which he promptly threw up due to the disease carried by mosquitos...malaria.

What a frickin jerk.

I came in just as he was tumbled out of the raft and the wife recapped for me.

As God is my witness after a few minutes of this 'survivors' mumbo jumbo I said, so what happened to the guides - no ides - hmmm, was this dog from home? No - he picked it up. Hmmm ... I think he's lying.

I then said, I'm guessing the dog is going to find him and he's going to eat the dog and then reveal that instead of retreating home he now adventures around the world.

I SWEAR TO YOU I predicted the dog would find him and become his final method of survival (to be fair I also assumed he'd make a point of stating he drank the nourishing blood) ... I also said to her, I think he went into the jungle and camped / sleeping in trees, eating well for a couple of weeks and then intentionally drinking crap water for several days before stumbling out into that man's yard.

PLUS - what was even the point, he'd spewed out the blue / purple mash over one week before - now he's thinking he could eat MEAT ???

Sorry, I'm not buying what he's selling ...
