Surprised by the low rating....

I've seen around 60 horror movies in the last 12 months and rank this in the top 20......I didn't find it particularly scary, but as far as a horror movie goes, it was enjoyable.....the story was decent and I actually cared about the main character, also, the ending wasn't predictable or cliche.....this was better than movies such as Paranormal Activity 4, Grave Encounters and The Descent which so many people seem to think are good, despite the fact you can predict what happens scene for scene.

Oh and I almost forgot......it leaves the Amityville horror remake for dead, which was a joke!

reply

You're joking right? This movie was absolutely terrible! Everything about it, the acting, the characters that you didn't give a *beep* about, the backstory, the stupid looking things haunting the house. It was awful and it dragged on and on. Nothing about the film was scary, there was no atmosphere, build up, jump scares, anything remotely scary, everything was contrived and cliche to the point where it just became laughable.

Paranormal Activity 4, Grave Encounters

I gave those movies and this movie a 3/10.

i liked it also. dont agree it was better than the descent or grave encounters but i enjoyed it as well as finding it pretty moving which is rare for a horror.

reply

I agree with everything you wrote except I do like The Descent and think it was a bit better than this one.

The movie is horrible! I learned of this story from cases Ed & Lorraine Warren. This was also shown on A Haunting on Discovery. I have a copy on DVD. The documentary is great. The real story is also a book called In A Dark Place.

I thought the movie was good as well. I am a fan of most supernatural horror movies to begin with so it had that on its side. I also liked how the family stuck together. I found it easy to root for them to overcome not only the paranormal happenings but also the struggles with illness and addiction. I wouldn't say it's up there with The Exorcist, Halloween, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or anything but it's still a pretty good movie.
