'Away From Her' or 'Still Alice'?

This was asked on the "Still Alice" board, but I can't find the thread now; I think it's gone. Most who answered, chose "Still Alice," but since there tends to be bias for a film on its own board, I thought I'd even things by asking the question on this board. I'm hoping some will answer as "Away From Her" has been on the Encore channels lately, and "Still Alice" has been running on "Starz." (Or is it "Showtime?" There goes my memory!)

Having seen both films (again) within the past month, I can surely say my vote goes to "Away From Her," and I wish I could have bumped up that thread on the "Still Alice" board.

I can understand why one may favor "Still Alice." It had more of the "entertaining factor;" it moved along more quickly and had more "going on." That appeals to many people. However, I choose "Away From Her." It had layers to it, often with subtlety that made it more emotional. Much of this was achieved by the brilliant performances. "Still Alice" had a great performance by Moore, but the dialogue and directing just didn't seem to convey what "Away From Her" was able to convey.

If you've seen both, what's your vote? Perhaps some answering may say both had their own strengths and can't really compare.

I watch Away From Her whenever it's on . I've watched Still Alice once.

AFH touches me every time. The reality of what is happening to them and the pain and love he feels for her.

She is no longer the woman she used to be.

How,tragic.

And to sacrifice his love for her to be accepting that she is only happy with Aubrey. So everyone moves in together. That's devotion.

I shed a tear or two. It's heartbreaking. I pray my husband and I don't have to go through anything like that

I agree, completely. Sarah Polley is an astounding talent and I would watch any film she's involved with.

i don't think the two films can be compared. yes they deal with the same subject matter but one is only about a husband and wife (putting it simply) the other is about how it affects A WHOLE FAMILY. 2ndly, Julianne Moore's character wasn't as far gone as Julie Christie is in this film.
