How can he afford it? And goof comment.

A care home of this apparent quality would cost a fortune and I wonder how husband is meant to afford it. Presumably you can't get insurance for dementia care - the premiums would be through the roof! Or it would be in this country (UK). Maybe Canada is more generous with its public health care system.

Also there is one goof mentioned and IMHO I don't think it is - the note from Fiona signed 'Fona' could easily happen if someone is in the early stages of dementia. So it might not be a goof after all but I don't know how to comment on this in the 'Goofs' section!

I thought the same thing about the goof. I believe it was intentional to show that even the spelling of her name was slipping away.

I wouldn't worry about commenting in that section. I suspect a lot of us understand. Only thing you could do is to post your own goof outing the 'goof'.

It's not raised as an issue with them. We have to assume Grant can afford it. I don't think they had children (which saves a hell of a lot of money). Ironically the issue you raise is experienced by Marion and Aubrey, necessitating Aubrey's removal from the facility. It is only after Marion moves in with Grant, that she/they can afford to send Aubrey back to Meadowlands.

Well, Grant was a college professor...working long enough most usually are paid well. It's also not mentioned what Fiona's career was, but I think it's safe to say she went to college and had one. Also, it's not mentioned in the movie, but in the original story, Fiona comes from a wealthy family. Her father was a famous cardiologist and her mother was in politics.

I always thought this movie was set in Canada for some reason so I thought it's just their normal welfare same as in Europe. My grandmas retirement home is basically private house residence splited into two apartments in quiet street owned by retirement home, she needs to pay some small monastery to sign up and give them their pension and has access to all these services. And this is not in rich country like Canada.

It probably was Canada. K.D. Lang sang Neil Young's "Helpless" at the end where Ontario is mentioned. Neil Young is from Canada.

I adored this movie, but part of me kept thinking, had they not been WASPs, and double-income-no-kids, her surroundings would have been markedly different.
