Psych At It"s Best !!!

Which seasons of Psych did you enjoy the most and were some of your absolute favorites? Also how would you rate all 8 seasons of Psych?

reply

This is the hardest questions I've ever had to answer. 

I feel like whenever I grab a season of Psych off the shelf to watch I grab either 1,2, or 3. Mainly because they have some of the "classics" when some of the running jokes were started. But I do watch the later seasons a lot too.

I'll say season 1 is my favorite, it was the start of everything and the feel of the show is just amazing! However, I do absolutely love all of the seasons.

As for rating, I'd have to give all the seasons a 10. However I'm not great at rating things, I either give stuff an amazing 10/10 or a 1/10. When I like something I obsess over it, and if I don't like something I just don't care for it at all. There's not much of an in between. 

While 1 & 2 have some good episodes, Seasons 3, 4, 5 & 6 are my favorites and are filled with tons of my most watched episodes! Mr. Yin presents is a very dark episode for Psych, but it's one of my favorites! No many how many times I watch it, it still keeps me on the edge of my seat! The most touching scene for me in the entire series is Lassie & Gus saving Juliet and her breaking down into Lassie's arms...:'( and Shawn & Henry working together to save Abigail. Then there's the boys in racketball outfits at Mary's funeral...?! ***cue the emotions!!!😢

Deez Nups & Office Space are some good ones from S7, but otherwise it was a mess. S8 was ok, I haven't really rewatched any episodes from it yet, but none really wowed me. Except for the finale, which I thought was absolutely perfect! Which I hardly ever feel about series finales!

I agree with you with the exception of season 8, it seems like they just threw 10 episodes together, halfassed, for closure

They are all great. No doubt 1,2 and 3 in that order, are the best.

Best episodes would be so tough. "Disco didn't die", "earth to Starbucks", "scary Sherri" would have to be in top five.

I'd never thought of that. Now that you've got me thinking about it, I'm so glad it didn't go south like Scrubs did. Do you know that much as I liked Scrubs in its early seasons, I've had no interest in watching any episode since it ended. Psych? No problem! Even knowing the whodunnit doesn't detract from its excellence.

My personal favorite seasons: 2, 4, 3, 7, 1, 6, 8, 5.

From the latter two seasons, I have to say that: COG Blocked, The Break-Up, Office Space, Dead Air, 100 Clues, and No Country for Two Old Men are some of the best episodes the show ever did. In fact, I love Office Space more than Last Night Gus.

Ratings: Season 1- 6/10; the show was so refreshing but clearly hadn't gained its footing yet.

Season 2 - 8/10; just all around fun and built on the formula from the previous season. Also, first signs of amazing guest stars with the legendary Tim Curry and his nicknaming of the Blueberry.

Season 3 - 7/10; I blame the start of the Yin/Yang trilogy here as I think it was too early to introduce such a serious storyline in an otherwise light series.

Season 4 - 8/10; torn on this one because I loved most of the episodes and Yin Presents was thoroughly brilliant but again, too serious for such a lighthearted show and IMO, the show never truly recovered from such a bleak finale. There was a distinct shift in the atmosphere.

Season 5 - 5.5/10; Such a horrid start and by far my least favorite season despite having a few great episodes. But overall, I really disliked the first part of this season. The second part saved the series for me and brought me back.

Season 6 - 6/10; Gained some of its old formula back but still a bit wonky. Still, Last Night Gus and Heeeeere's Lassie are two of my favorite episodes and definitely the best of this particular season.

Season 7 - 7/10; Yet another shift after a serious finale. But since the show was no longer the same after season 4, it wasn't as awful. The majority of the season was solid and hilarious.

Season 8 - 8/10; I only rank it this high because the series finale was honestly the best episode the show had done in a loooooong time. It was littered with awesome guest stars, sent the cast off in an appropriate way, a sly reference to Monk, and everyone was in character. It felt complete with the promise that the characters were going to be okay and still have adventures, just off screen. I also have to give props to COG Blocked, and Shawn and Gus Truck Things Up. Great callbacks in the tone of how the show used to be.

Seasons 3 - 6 are my favourite seasons. Season 3 is when I feel they started throwing in some episodes that highlight Shawn's attempts to mature, and they did brilliant transitions from drama to comedy.

Season 3 - 10/10
Season 4 - 9/10
Season 5 - 9/19
Season 6 - 9/10
Season 2 - 8/10
Season 1 - 7/10
Season 7 - 6/10
Season 8 - 6/10

I'll admit season 8 was kind of a mess.. but I also LOVED the first episode (Shawn in the UK), and I also enjoyed "A Touch of Sweevil", the episode oddly gets alot more hate. But honestly even in season 8, at that point in even the best of long running series the storylines are rather thin and you are just along for the ride with the characters you already LOVE to death.

At this point, while the show definitely changed after Yang into season 4.. and never really funny snapped back, Kind of difficult with such bleak material. While those episodes are brilliant for the show are quite dark and it does affect the tone of the show.

But I am grateful as the show never completely just felt completely wrong and you were just praying for the show to end mercifully (Dexter season 8 for example.. 24 season 5 or so, even though it bounced back in some of season 7,8).

Hated the Shawn in the UK episode, second only to the musical episode. Second best series finale of all time. Only surpassed by Breaking Bad.
