What are you five?
This is the crappiest show ever!

Your grammar and spelling are horrible (as is mine, if you were curious). You do not seem to understand that it is done tongue in cheek, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Cheesy dialogue, plots and special effects, both shows are not meant to be taken seriously. Giant spiders, or Willow (and not Xander) being gay... Both are silly and unbelievable, but that is part of the charm.

reply

ya but buffy actually had a good plot and good effects, monster warriors is just another power rangers with even worse grafics, the lighting is so horrible everyone is glowing and the monsters look fake

Sorry, but, like many CanCon-forced idiotic *beep* television shows that have been relegated to late-night slots of Canadian childrens' stations, "Monster Warriors" is going to be cancelled. "Tongue-in-cheek" or not - this show is not funny, or ironic, or going to appeal to its target demographic audience. RIP Monster Warriors and your terrible, f-grade Canadian CGI (by the way, I'm Canadian).

reply

this show is very annoying

it is put on ytv were i live in a time slot that is supposed to be dedicated to anime shows for 14-18 year olds.

Even worse, it has actually replaced some fairly good programming.

The concept of shows like this making it on the air, let alone replacing other programs is gag-inducing.

p.s. im canadian too ^_^

You mean bionix??

Yeah, apparently they do that for "nostalgia" but whatever. I sometimes watch it, it's just *beep* hillarious.

Agreed.
It's such a stupid show. I really, really wish they never created it. It kills me every time I watch it, even for just a few seconds. That lighting affect annoys me so much, and somewhat blinds me.
Why on earth they created some so stupid such as this, I will not know. I just really hope they didn't think that it was actually *good*.

reply

It's a cheap Power Rangers rip-off and should be canceled and replaced with anime.

BTW did you notice they all look like the original Power Rangers without a black guy.

Luke = Jason
Taby = Kimberly
Antonio = Billy
Vanka = Trini

I bet everone could agree that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is a superior show.

I have to disagree, this show is great. it has a nice amount of action, is very, very funny and has nice use of B-horror monsters.
Not to mention the actor who plays Klaus is my fave comedian ever Sean Cullen who has a few shows of his own for one.

reply

Amazing that people think Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a show worth DEFENDING the quality of, especially with the latest, high budget versions of the P.R. that they make. But why compare Monster Warriors with Buffy? Sure the irony and the genre are the same, but the audience is totally different. How many 8 year old boys wrote the above comments, I wonder..? The old Batman is the perfect comparison, and at least it never tried to be something it wasnt, either.

I'd rather watch The Big Knights and Peppa Pig than listen to Klaus' pseudo-german stereotype accent and watch his attempts at making himself look like a valid reason to become an "evil" version of Albert Einstein.

This show really is lame. It's terrible. The lighting effect is, i think, supposed to replicate the bad quality film of the 50s. But in the 50s it was in black and white so it looked allright that way. The monsters, as well as looking nothing like what they're meant to actually be (a praying mantis? yeah right- that's no PM) also lack any realism. Firstly, if you could adapt an invertebrate or insect to such a size (meaning manipulating more variables than size, like bloodflow, exoskeleton growth, increased nerve network) it would still hardly take four hours to step three metres towards the MWs. I mean, it's as if the monsters are scared of the wariors half the time. Also, Klaus could have always made multiple monsters in the first place. The cockroaches using the tunnel system? Seriously, had they been overground it'd made far more sense. The theme and opening titles are so lame, 'i make my monsters big' just sounds too cheesy and silly. If Klaus HAD been a movie director in the 50s he'd be way older too. And why would his female assistant just join him like that? The MMPrangers weren't the best show ever, but at least they gave effort to the show rather than intentionally trying to look stupid. If this is meant to be a parody/ironic satire then it must be very well hidden in the cheap plot. The idea for the show (50s B movie creatures come to life in the 21st century) was brilliant. It was a chance to make something great. Appeal to the teenage and young audience who grew up playing video games and are curious as to the old films. But they just made another 'americans can't act' piece of un-propaganda that makes any non-american feel that the canadians can't produce good shows. It's hardly a flagship for them, i gotta say!

I happen to think this show is hilarious. It is meant to make people groan with the plot. Its jokes are good (occasionally weak), its plot is funny, its lighting makes it look unreal; all of this adding to its charm!!
You people who are bagging it out are obviously not fans of spoofs.

I understand that it's meant to be ironic, but TBH I think it's just crap. Once you get beyond the irony all you've got is a cheap, badly acted (although the kids seem to be taking it seriously, unlike the adults who are encouraged to ham it up), badly written load of nonsense. What's sad is that it could actually be good if it were taken seriously. I know kids shows like 'Press Gang' and 'Century Falls' would be very unlikely to materialise in this day and age due to their very adult content; but without a decent protagonist and edge of seriousness the whole thing just turns into lame comedy. It's the reason as a kid I hated the 'Ninja Turtles' cartoon but loved the first film.

Why thank you vwisniewski.

It just gets to me the way kids are well, patronised by the shows intended for them. There were plenty of crap kids shows when I was a nipper but there were also quite a few well written, well acted dramas and adventure shows aimed at preteens. TBH some of them were actually quite scary for something going out at 5pm, but they're amazingly well remembered to this day for challenging their audience to think a bit like adults.

'Moondial' was creepiness to the max, some younger kids were banned from watching 'Dr.Who' because it was too scary (and sometimes it was!) and I know a few kids who were banned from watching 'Press Gang' after the two-parter where a nutcase in a clown mask walked in, pulled a bloody great revolver and held the news team hostage. The of course there's 'Century Falls', which I never saw as a kid because it caused such a stir in the UK for being scary and dealing with themes such as barreness and abortion that it was never sold abroad.

What many of the parents didn't see in stuff like 'Dr.Who' and 'Press Gang' were the deeper emotional and moral themes dealt with. In fact I'd say 'Dr.Who' was one of the most positive and moral shows going out at 5:30pm, despite the body count. And having finally seen 'Century Falls' I can say that yes, it is very frightening for a kids show but it's also got a very positive message about embracing life and the ending is just so damn joyful I had to listen to the first five Black Sabbath albumns to get it out of my system.

That's where stuff like 'Monster Warriors' makes me despair. Taken more seriously it could actually be really good, which doesn't mean it has to lose the humour. Sadly these days there's a tendency to pander to the morons (yes, MORONS!) who seem to think we should never do anything to scare kids whatsoever despite the fact that, within reason, facing fears is an important part of growing up.

Anyway it's Saturday night and I'm normally out having a life but I've caught the flu, so I figured ranting about children's TV on the Internet is a good way to vent some frustration. GRRRRRR... I just hope this isn't the new strand that's already killed seven people in Queensland alone.

Anyway have a good one and hopefully I'll be back.

Cheers.

Well, you're actually incorrect about 'Dr.Who'. Originally it was intended to be "edutainment" for kids but also accessible to adults. Even in its darkest and scariest period Philip Hinchcliffe (producer of Tom Baker's first three seasons) said it was aimed at "older children and adults".

I've spoken to Steven Moffat a number of times and as far as he's concerned the new series is produced with 8 years olds in mind. The way they see it, if they produce something that's going to be challenging for that age group then it'll also appeal to teenagers and adults. I do find that slightly hard to believe coming from the man who wrote the amazingly scary 'Blink'! But as far as the BBC is concerned it's a family drama, aimed at adults and kids alike. When I was a kid it aired at 5:30pm as part of 'The Afternoon Show', which was aimed squarely at kids. It wasn't until years later I found out it was made by the BBC Drama Department actually had more adults watching it in the UK than kids! I'd just assumed it was a kids after school show because that's where it was broadcast when I was wee.

And I did manage to catch an episode of 'Captain Power' on VHS years ago. It was strange, rather like watching 'Power Rangers' aimed at an older audience but I really enjoyed it. It managed to be good fun, but kept the serious tone at the same time. But I can imagine what you said happening to it in the ratings. The US isn't really used to "family drama" done like that. Over there sci-fi is pretty cleanly cut between adult shows like the 'Star Trek' franchise and kids shows like "Power Rangers'.
