Why are the 3 main girls so mean?

The kids I nanny for are always watching this show, therefore I have seen it a few times. I do not understand in the least bit how the main characters are at all supposed to be alluring. They are extremely rude and snobby to their families and friends/acquaintances. Who cares if Charlotte wants to hang out with Lewis. You broke up with him. She is not trying to do anything malicious. The worst thing I saw Charlotte do was "accidentally" dump flour on Cleo (anyway, she deserved it). Cleo is super controlling and manipulative to Lewis. The other girls back her up in her controlling and manipulating and make her think she is right, but she's not. This show is like "Mean Girls", except you are now supposed to feel compassion for and adore the main mean characters instead of disgust.

Lewis needs to grow a backbone and stop allowing Cleo to manipulate and control him and his life.

They are terrible role models for the young people who watch this show. I'm sure any parent or adult would agree with me.

Rikki was but Emma and Cleo in my my opinion, really were not that mean they had moments but Rikki was mean and rude.

The girls were not meant to be role models at all.It was just a show for entertainment purpose.

You're right, the girls were mean in season 2, especially Cleo, but I think you're mistaken about the intent.

The girls are not supposed to be role models, not in this part of the season anyway. If you've seen Season 1, you know they act more like role models in there; Season 2 is supposed to go beyond that, to make them evolve. But for that to happen, they need to make mistakes, to screw up, sometimes badly: they're teenagers after all, they need to act like teenagers! But what matters is that in the end, they learn from their mistakes and do the right thing.

The thing is, this show—especially in its second season—is not episodic, so they're not gonna have a moral at the end of each episode about how they acted badly this week, you need the whole season to see them turn around, so I can understand your confusion.

charlotte's the worst of the four. you must not have seen much of her. she seems innocent at first, but she's controlling, manipulative, obsessive, possessive, a thief, liar, stalker and more.

i do admit that the girls are mean to lewis sometimes, though. most of the times, he's just trying to help and they push him away. it can get frustrating.

and if you're shocked at how mean the girls are to kim, it's because kim's a brat. i'm not excusing them, but i know that it would be extremely hard for me to say anything nice to her. kim is best described as selfish. in fact, i just watched the episode where she uses elliot [emma's brother] when he has a crush on her. throughout the entire episode she's making him buy her stuff, do her homework and just generally bossing him around.

Their attitudes at times did get on my nerves as well. Lewis was a saint to put up with them. Cleo did dump Lewis and who he spents time with is his business. They were better in Season 3 however towards him. All three of them of are decent however and never failed to root for them. Their attitudes to Lewis at times did get on my nerves. There were instances where I would have washed my hands of them. Yes Rikki was especially rude. Did not like her much.

Kim however was an awful person.

That Charlotte sure sounds a lot like president Barack Obama. Obama does the same thing. I can't even stand that guy.

I wouldn't call them mean, it had to be frustrating for all of them to keep a secret like that from their families especially Emma and Cleo having younger siblings, mostly Cleo though with that nasty brat Kim.

As for Rikki she does says things how they are or says what she thinks whether people like it or not. I'd call her more brutally honest, even if some people were insulted by the things she'd say sometimes.

Charlotte was just unbalanced. She really couldn't see that Lewis DIDN'T want to be with her? And she practically bullied him into a relationship and stolen his phone more than once. Lewis was a nice guy but he really needed to grow a spine with Charlotte and just tell her straight that he wasn't interested.

In my opinion Sophie was the worst. Bella apologized to her when she got the wrong idea that time and even suggested that they should try and get along. But Sophie got self satisfaction from just being nasty to her. And then there was the time when Bella had the idea for a charity event but Sophie got the café first and passed it off as her own idea. Oh and she tried it on with Zane, knowing that he was dating Rikki.

With Rikki you eventually discover that she's very tough and abrasive because her family doesn't have a lot of money. She's very lonely and she's only just learning to care. It's shown that she does love her father very much but she's not good at letting other people in. By the end she's become much kinder.

Cleo likewise is understandable in S2 because her parents have just split up, her relationship with Lewis imploded and she's now jealous of Charlotte sniffing around him. To her credit, the show does present it as Cleo being petty. It's only when Charlotte starts becoming abusive and manipulative that we're supposed to root for Cleo.

Emma unfortunately has always been a bit mean-spirited. She's one of those bossy girls that loves to lecture her friends and moralise - as well as have her own way. She doesn't really have much of a reason to be a bit frosty like the other two - but she's still only a teenager. Some episodes do show how the girls care for each other.

What I find hilarious is that in any other setting, three girls this hot would be super popular and the center of attention, but here they're treated like nerds and outsiders. I guess they're supposed to be "Hollywood homely" or something.

I wouldn't say they were mean per say. It seems more like being a mermaid (and even a merman in Mako Mermaid) makes a person conceited. Even the show's theme song is rather self-centered.

I was disappointed in Emma when she felt all entitled to have Byron ask her to the dance. Realistically he would have had no reason to want to go out with her at that point. She let him down HARD, then tried to make up for it by letting him down a little easier. So basically she rejected him twice, yet still expected him to ask her to the dance. That's just crazy, lol.
