so why were the two imprisoned in that concrete space? my guess is that they were a couple... however, as the man got out, it seemed like he got it all - including who was responsible for it..
i don't think i got it though :\

Did you guys not see the last 5 minutes?

You see the two people in a flat, bleeding to death from stab wounds. It's clear enough that they either had a fight and stabbed each other or one stabbed the other and then themselves. The cramped concrete maze is obviously purgatory before their deaths, or maybe some sort of spiritual punishment.

Totally agree with you!

interesting theory. But that poses several questions:

* Why did the man say "I will rescue you" if they actually stabbed each other?
* What does it mean, when they are showed watching the fireworks together ... ?
* What significance does the scene have with with the washing on the line (man is old by now) ?

this is a good short film and i think its very open to interpretation - my view is:

- the maze was the man struggling to get out of unconsciousness
- the women had stabbed the man then killed herself
- when the woman said she was trapped while trying to go somewhere meant she regretted marrying the guy as she had to give up on her lifes dreams and thats why she stabbed him/killed herself
- the scene where they were watching fireworks was a memory
- the scene showing the man older means only he survived after calling the emergency services

ok. doesn't answer 1) though.

He still loves her. He doesn't want to let her die.

reply

He loves her, stabs her, she almost dies, he still loves her, says "I will rescue you" ...
extremely plausible

It's been a while since I saw it, but I don't think there is any reason to think it must of been him that killed her. I seem to remember thinking it was more of a robbery gone wrong scenario. Maybe I'm forgetting something.

reply

robbery? I think you're thinking of the wrong film

reply

No, I'm not. We never see what leads up to them being injured do we?

reply

no, but there is strictly no indication of a robbery whatsoever

reply

And? There's nothing to say it wasn't either. It's called inferring.

Kinda agree with you. But I think :
- The wife did survived. The ending shows her photo. She looks old with wrinkle and white hair.
- The firework scene was their GOOD memory.
- The scene with naked men being slaughtered is quite hard to explain. I think it symbolizes the wife's adultery.

So it's a happy ending after all (?).

I think it's clear that they both survived. You know the guy is still alive because he's obviously shown at the end, walking around and then looking at the sky, while his vision is obscured by the cloths. The woman also survived the ordeal because she is shown in the picture, aged just like the man. As to whether or not she's alive at the time of the ending is unknown, maybe they separated or she died from natural causes/illness/etc.

It's obvious that the concrete maze is some type of purgatory, and when he found the exit, which lead to the couple's house, he awoke from unconsciousness. The woman also escaped somehow, as she woke up as well and evidently survived her wounds.

The only thing I didn't understand was the symbolism behind the towels and such obscuring his attempt to look at the sky.
