Tartan takes US rights to Election and Election 2

Tartan USA has acquired all US rights to Jonnie To's Election and Election 2 from Celluloid Dreams.

Both films played in official selection in Cannes, the first in 2005 and the sequel this year.

The deal was brokered by Charlotte Mickie for Celluloid Dreams and Tartan USA acquisitions consultant Marie-Therese Guirgis.

Both thrillers are set in the underworld of Hong Kong gangsters.

"Election 2 was one of the clear highlights of the Cannes Film Festival this year - the film works as action, as drama, and as art,” said Guirgis. Tartan USA's release of these outstanding films will give Johnnie To the wider audience he deserves as one of the masters of the current Hong Kong cinema."
