"Triad Election" can be understood and enjoyed individually.
And then, "Triad Election" is a much better movie.
Many people who had seen "Election" don't want to see "Triad Election". Here is the example
[Oh...hell. I don't know if it was just coming on the night after the first showing of To's virtual Wild Bunch tribute Exiled but these two films, with their deliberate (Coppola inspired?) pace, low action and, let's say, challenging narrative (nothing to give the average HK fan pause, but for the heathens...), could be said to have recieved a rocky reception at the IIFF.
The crowd was restless from the start, whispering amongst themselves frequently with evident confusion. The dropoff in attendance from the screening of the first film to the sequel was dramatic, going from a healthy size crowd to, well, me and about five other people.
It's too bad. I personally wouldn't exactly call either movie a masterpiece, but they are two pretty strong triad movies.]
Thanks very much for the link. I can kind of understand the drop-off though; I don't think I'd want to watch even the Godfather 1 and 2 back-to-back! I'll definitely be checking out Triad Election now.
Shame about the drop-off. I think Election 2 is a masterpiece, and better than Election 1.
