This one is too much like ROMAN

This flick or at least the previews had too much of the same thing from the Angela Bettis directed, Lucky McKee scripted movie, ROMAN.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Roman. I thought it was bad ass for an indie flick.

But Spiral takes the same thing of the psycho repressed recluse loner dude.........

It might be good, I don't know. It just reminded me of Roman a lot.

I was thinking the same thing but, this one looks a bit more like a thriller than Roman. Roman seems a lot artsier than this one.

Come on now, if you're going to say its too much like another movie, you have to give more examples than just "psycho repressed recluse loner dude". That has been done in so many movies, not just Roman.

It is far far better than Roman.

I'm in the process of watching Spiral as I write this.

So far, it hasn't been engaging, thrilling, or even the least bit entertaining.

When I started this thread I had just found out about Spiral, so take it easy!

It wasn't even out in theaters or on DVD.

I personally loved Roman, for reasons I won't go into detail, and I'm just a big fan of Bettis and McKee.

The similarities I see now is that both lead weirdos (Mason and Roman) their first names have five letters.

Also they both have boring *beep* jobs. Roman is a welder, and Mason is a telemarketer.

Roman doesn't have a hobby like Mason, Mason paints and what not.

Roman doesn't have asthma like Mason.

But both become obsessed with a cute blonde girl. In Roman, he chokes her to death then cuts her up as the movie progresses and gets rid of her.

In Spiral, the blonde chick in his sketch book bares a resemblance.

Seems to me that in Spiral they took two characters from Roman (the artsy suicide girl from the climax IN Roman and Roman himself) to create Mason.

Anyway, Mason and Roman have co-workers who are a-holes, and then these characters of the super cheery outgoing girl who seems to drop into the loner psycho's lives is basically the same.

though I liked the hippie flower child chick from Roman way better.

Roman was shot in digital, which made it look grittier and more like we were peeking into someone's life.

When I see Joel David Moore, I see the dude from Grandma's Boy.

I liked him in HATCHET, but this one's still iffy until I finish it.

I'll probably update it.

Roman still rocks!

This movie reminded me of Roman a little bit too. Except the killer was an artist, and Roman was just a loner that drank beer all day.

This actually reminded me a lot of Angela Bettis/Lucky McKee's ROMAN mixed with the Masters of Horror Episode, Jennifer.

Mason and Jennifer are alike in that they both keep on killing and will continue to kill cyclically.

You don't know much about them, and killing is their habit. Except Jennifer had a smoking body!

Spiral left me with such cinematic BLUE BALLS!

I wanted to see more blood and gore, or at least a dead body.

There wasn't even a nipple or some partial nudity!

I liked Zach Levi's acting.

I HATED the "Amber" character completely. I'm glad she died.

Joel David Moore is forever engrained in my mind as the character in GRANDMA's BOY.

I agree that this did have MANY similarities to Roman (loner with a dead end job, traumatized by some kind of guilt, meets sweet girl who coaxes him from shell, etc.) but... when I saw this movie, I realized that it actually was a better crafted movie than Roman. Roman was really good but, this one was a little bit better crafted.

Roman was terrible. i know it's has a slow build, like Spiral, but the difference for me was that nobody in Roman was interesting. The only reason that i even stayed to see the end of Roman was because Lucky McKee and Angela Bettis were at the screening for a q&a afterwards.
