If you were Rachel, who would it be ? Ethan or Dex ?

Definitely Ethan for me. Dex is such a sissy :) So unsure of what he wants. Damn it, if you are in love with Rachel, how can you propose to Darcy? Doesn't make sense and plain stupid. Ethan, on the other hand, stood by Rachel all along. He did make me shed some tears when he confessed to Rachel that she is his first choice.

Ethan all the way. Rachel is an idiot and a terrible person.

Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?

reply

Ethan.

Ethan, by far - easily my fav character.

Ethan for sure but the problem is that they played ethan up so much in the movie. He was a minor roll in the book and was not in love with Rachel. Although the obvious choice in the movie would be ethan, they had to follow the book and have Rachel wind up with dex. Although John krasinski was the best part of the movie for me, I think playing him up was a mistake because critics obviously tore apart rachels poor choice. Colin egglesfield was nothing but an empty walking ken doll.

reply

LOL "empty walking ken doll" described him perfectly. A total miscast imo.

Sorry, as sad as it is, I would have followed my heart and went with Dex. Yeah he was a spinless, douchey, prick but he was hot, had a great job, sensitive, caring, and smart, passionate, romantic, had good conversation, etc. Basically he's everything off the checklist minus the douchey part, so I would have been hooked and yeah would have been all up on that.

Honestly, how was Ethan any better than Dex? He exposed himself as a hypocrite! He spent most of the movie critizing Dex and Rachel for not going after what they want when he was secretly in love with Rachel and didn't say anything!

''If he's an idol, I don't want to know who's a hero!''

reply

^^^This. Plus Ethan criticize Dex for not taking a stand and stringing Rachel along by not saying point blank how he feels, yet he couldn't take a stand against Claire. He strung her a long as well by never telling her point blank it wasnt going to happen.

Dex.

Am I the only one who appreciated this movie as a love story? Romance isn't all pretty bows. Best friends mistreat each other, people fall in and out of love, couples cheat.

Ethan was unpleasant (in the film - I haven't read the book). I found the character very realistic and well-drawn, in that he had good qualities - intelligence, wit, perceptiveness - but also some very negative ones. The way he treated Claire was both spineless and obnoxious. He acted as though he was ashamed to have slept with her and portrayed her as a "bunny boiler" (ok, she sort of was in the film, but she seemed kind with it) when in fact it was quite reasonable that she would expect him to at least be civil to her. I think it makes sense that Rachel would find this mean aspect of his character very unattractive. He and Claire were on a par looks-wise but he acted as if he was some great catch.

reply

You say Rachael found that part of his character was unattractive, then what would you call her sleeping with her life long best friends action. I'm not saying she should have not went for it but it could have been handled better that what she did.

reply

Without a doubt Ethan

You're not alone. I agree Dex. I was rooting for him in the book and movie as well.

Ethan was a good friend, but quite frankly I found his pushy behavior off putting. He was yelling at Rachel and telling her what to for the entire movie. That beach scene ticked me off too. It's like mind your business man.

This is how real life goes. People are not as perfect as we'd like to believe. Friends cheat, they back stab, they lie. People fall in love with someone they shouldn't. They lust after the wrong person. They marry the wrong person. I for one am glad they didn't go the predictable route and have her end up with her friend Ethan.

Dex! Don't give me the friend thing. Darcy knew when she made the moves on him how Rachel felt, even made a statement about how she talked aout him all the time. But, Darcy knew what a catch he was as far as giving her the lifestyle she felt she deserved. At the same time, she knew how timid her "best" friend, ie punching bag, is and knew she could steam roll her into this. She didn't really love dex or Rachel. She not only stole dex from her in the beginning, but for all she knew, was stealing Marcus from her as well. I cannot imagine that Darcy was all that interested in him until she saw him being attracted to Rachel and then he became irresistible.

Couples cheat guys, that's just the way it is. At least, that's the way it is on desperate housewives and in the movies, but my parents and grandparents and your grandparents, well they must have cheated too, 'cuz everyone does, so I will too! I got it all figured out! Great movie, so realistic. Movies that do not involve cheating are so fake. I wish they would just admit that everyone on earth is a selfish liar.

reply

Was that supposed to be sarcastic?

because ... um, my mom had an affair. And my grandfather had an affair.

reply

You're living in a bubble if you think cheating mostly just happens in movies and shows.

John Krasinski! Oh, opps, I mean Ethan.

I feel bad for John not because of who he is, but where he is. According to NPR (National Public Radio) the average male actor is about the same size as the average American male — roughly 5 foot 9 1/2. John Krasinski is 6'3" (I'm the same height). With guys his size, a great deal of woman across the U.S. find him extremely atractive for many reasons including his looks.

But when he is surrounded with shorter people, Boy, does he look so out of place. The only time that there was some comparison, was when he was with Marcus who himself is a little bit over 6'3".

reply

Ethan was the better catch. He had personality and humor. Dex was so wishy washy.

reply

The situation with Ethan was so cliched. The entire time I was like finally! A male best friend who isn't in love with the protagonist! And then it all went to *beep* Anyway if I had to pick I'd say Ethan.
