Darcy

What an absolute annoyance. Nothing genuine about her. I was cringing half the time she spoke. How could a guy like Dex fall for her? Is it all about the looks with men? Because, intellectually, they seemed complete opposites. Not that I liked Rachel. She was too much of a pussy and never stood up for herself. But atleast, she realised that in the end. And changed stuff for herself.

Did anyone else find Darcy completely annoying? Or is it just Kate Hudson? I could not understand if that was the actual character or over-acting?

I'm the opposite with this movie, I can't understand how women like Rachel and Darcy could fall for Dex! Dex was awful! He didn't have the balls to tell Rachel that he really liked her and then started dating her best friend and then got engaged to her while he still really liked Rachel, and then once he was engaged he kept cheating on her with Rachel but didn't have the guts to call off the wedding with Darcy but also kept stringing Rachel along! Eurgh, I just really hated the guy! Probably one of the worst romantic leads in a rom com ever, I just couldn't stand him!

Darcy was a succubus.

I think Dex initially asked Darcy out on a date because she was so forward (and he was a coward in not asking Rachel out first/sooner). The movie then portrays Dex as this guy trapped in an engagement with Darcy--he wanted to please his parents (something the original novel does not address).

The sequel Something Blue eventually gives Darcy's character more depth. I read it and although it's annoying at first...at least it gives the reader more insight as to why Darcy is the way she is - something the movie fails to provide.

I'm fairly sure that was the entire point of that date, and that's where he was going. He's not gonna then hear "we are just friends" and be like "woah now honey, no, I like you so you're gonna just have to put out now."
I mean come on, women are CONSISTENTLY complaining about guys coming on too strong after being told the girl isn't interested. But no he should definitely continue to pursue the girl who told him exactly where he stood. Yeah. That's a good message to send.

The Dex, Marcus, and to an extent Rachel, actors were all flat in this movie. I feel like they would've gone for a Luke Wilson or Bradley Cooper to fill the role of Dex (if either actor was younger), to pull off the vulnerable but brooding character attributes. But Dex just came off as dimwitted and spineless instead. There's a fine line between dimwitted and vulnerable, and someone of Wilson's or Cooper's calibre knows the difference, but not everyone.

The Marcus actor was way over the top. I get that he was supposed to be sleazy, but they were trying to pass him off as charming enough to at least be appealing to women...and he just, wasn't.

I like Ginnifer as an actress, and she did a decent job as Rachel. The only complaint I have is that she can't really convey that really dark sick feeling of anxiety well, that would definitely engulf Rachel. Someone like Emma Stone is good at that while also maintaining a innocent and sweet look if they have to. Ginnifer does do the innocent and genuine thing well though.

I thought that Darcy and Ethan were right on point! Possibly because they were also played by really good actors, but perhaps something else just came together.
