Ending Explanation? * SPOILERS*

MAJOR SPOILER

*****

Could someone please explain the ending to me? I watched it and got so confused! So, Jack was really the doctor and Kate was his wife that sided with his "enemies." When they tried to brain-wipe the real Jack Roberts they released the shadow puppet and Kate put the facility on lockdown so it wouldn't escape. Then she gets brain wiped? But the machine was only used 8 times and when the real Jack didn't work out the demon was unleashed and the machine broke. So Kate would have had to been brain wiped before Jack Roberts was.
Did i miss something? or interpret it wrong?
That just seems like a HUGE continuity flaw.

Also, the demon never attcked comatose Jack. If they killed the real Jack Roberts would the Shadow puppet disappear.

I stilled liked the film. Maybe because i am a big fan of James Marsters and in my eyes he can do no wrong nor bad movies.

**Complete Spoilers**

What I got while assuming there wasn't a huge continuity hole was this:

1) This was supposed to help a person "reset" by forgetting their past they could start over.

2) It was used on a criminal. Cool, fine.

3) It was used on the supermodel. mmm, OK if it works, but pushing ethical boundaries.

4) His nurse thought he was going to far with new ideas and research for the machine, possibly because of (3), or maybe she saw/heard/believed his future plans were skewed, I wasn't entirely clear on what exactly set her off.

5) The nurse told the venture capitalist at a stakeholder meeting the he was losing it and to protect himself he wiped them both.

6) The head of security saw/found out about (5) and had to be wiped.

7) His wife finally couldn't back him and was wiped.

8) His final experiment tried to wipe the mindless man and in the lack of his mind, wend after his soul. The "beast" was the soul after it was severed from his flesh.

OK. There HAS to be a hole now that lay it out. The wife locked the outer door to keep the beast in, but the man the beast was created from was still on the machine. So either A) the doc put him back in after he wiped his wife, B) she was wiped somewhere/somehow that didn't require the use of the (only?) mind wipe device, or C) they, um, just hosed up the plotline.

Also, when the model's shadow tweaked out, assuming it was supposed to be the beast (right?) why didn't it attack like it did every other time?

All in all I don't feel like I wasted my time watching it, but it was really the worst kind of movie, not bad enough to turn off, not good enough to really enjoy.

Also, they said they were heading for the only exit. You're telling me they crawled in and out of that manhole cover in the middle of nowhere to came and go from work EVERY DAY? Yikes, I thought my commute sucked. And they had to walk past all the cells, the pool, and go through the locker room to get the the offices? Not the best layout.

Still a big fan of James myself, it's why I watched this at all... 5/10 sounds about right.

Geez, I may have put more thought into this than the movie deserved...

Torisenblack and crazirishbty, those were great reviews of the explanation of the movie, im glad i read what you two written and understood what happened but i got confused listening the first time at that scene when Dr. Menger explained to what happened to everyone. I know You had to rewind the movie a few times to understand what happened cause it is kind of confusing, it didnt click with me at first, i just call Dr. Menger (James aka Spike) a mad scientist, if im right im on the right track.

When i contemplated renting it, i saw the title it reminded me of Saw meets Puppet Masters so i thought it was about a group of people and something to do with their shadows attacking people. I read the short plot and it intrigued me enough to want to watch it. I know they made the supermodel chick look spooky to fool us in the film, i thought she was an alien at first.

Anyway great reviews! but spoilers! lol or the answer!

Heh, my friends and I keep coming up with increasingly elaborate theories in a desperate attempt to put some rhyme and/or reason to this movie. Your comment about the commute is almost identical to one we made...

reply

wow, thanks! i didn't give it that much thought, but you're right! there is a hole in the plot.

and yeah, the commute is really... well... nevermind ;]

but it wasn't the mainentrance, maybe the building is so huge it's part in the woods? lol

and why the heck didn't they just block the entrance in order to keep the shadows inside? they couldn't know for sure the shadows would die in sunlight. would've been to much risk for me

Did they actually say the machine was broken?
