Ooooh, This was just sooooo disappointing/Spoiler s

I am really amazed at the 7 rating. I got this from the local library and I am very glad I didn't pay to see this.I am a huge fan of Tom Wilkinson and Billy Crudup, but this was sooo bad. There was potential in the story line and the characters, but it just never jelled .There was no basis for a love to develop between the two. The screenplay was pretty dreadful; the ending was lame.
Actually, the whole thing was lame. What a waste of time. I feel bad for these talented actors. It must have been so unsatisfying for them.

I thought it was a great film. Billy Crudup is supposedly extremely picky with his choices, so I doubt he was disappointed with this movie. I doubt these actors would have signed on to do this film if they disliked the script as well. I'll agree that some of the movie moves along slowly, but I felt like it was still a very good movie and that it was nice to see the characters change (especially Henry as he continued to try and make an effort for Lucy). I didn't think the script was poor either. Do you care to elaborate on what you didn't like about it? I felt it was fairly realistic and while not the best, most original script ever it was still good.

I don't know why Tom Wilkinson wasted his time in this film. Utter by-the-book indie schlock. I will disagree with you, however, and say that I think Mandy Moore probaby enjoyed making this film, she probably thought she was being edgey and "expanding her horizons", she is so clueless.

Also I don't why I hate Billy Crudup so much. I hated him before I even saw him in a movie, but my hatred has been confirmed everytime I see him in a film. He is so wannabe edgey, just the sort of drama school-"look at me I'm deep" kind of person that I can't stand.

hate billy crudup eh? well, i do not share that with you, but I am curious- did you see him in Almost Famous (a fav film of mine; my age, my time period, done so well)or Jesus' Son? If you have not seen them (because you dislike his work so much) , I wonder if you'd feel any different after these performances...

reply

you seem to hate this movie quite a bit since you're wasting your time writing how much you hate it.

IMO- it wasn't great and it wasn't bad. Mandy Moore seemed too wishy-washy but all and all it wasn't as bad as you say it is.

LOL! I had the same opinion of Crudup as well, look at me I'm so melodramatic type guy. Someone you would want to smack with a book. Anyone with any ounce of self respect should not have made this movie let alone even act in it. The writing was not good and over all just annoying shallow characters. OCD, whatever you call it, there are real issues out there instead of wallowing in selfish behaviour, I don't feel sorry for people who claim to have this mental issue or any other mental problems, there are people starving, people dying, people being killed just because of the color of their skin and we sit here in this grand country of America feeling sorry for ourself?! That's just pathetic.

I don't like Crudup either. I think it started with “Inventing the Abbots” and was further compounded by the way he treated Mary Louise Parker. He plays a dick in almost every movie he's been in.

I agree there was no storyline. We were supposed to believe that these two people magically fell in love with each other why? Because he took her to the Planetarium, and bought her telescope? It was sweet but didn’t make up for his behavior. This movie was obviously written by a man who has no clue about women. No woman, unless she’s a glutton for pain and screwed up men, would want Henry (except those weird chicks who started a post about him being hot).

If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all

Oh I know my best friend and I rented this movie from the library too and were practically falling asleep we thought that it had some rip offs to her earlier films like A Walk to Remember and also Because I said so but most of all I thought it was a cheap crappy rip off of As Good as it Gets meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I love Mandy Moore but 2007 was not her year which is sad because she worked so hard and long on these projects.

I thought this movie was fantastic. It's realistic and it moves along at a realistic pace. As far as the characters I think it does a great job at keeping things real. Not everyone is perfect, sometimes you fall inlove with someone who's got problems. I don't think there are any instances where the movie drags on, I feel like every scene has a purpose. All of the actors did a wonderful job. Especially Billy Crudup who was able to pull off the lines he had with such emotion. Mandy Moore is as good an actress as she is a singer and I think she has a lot of potential. I'm so glad I watched it. : )

I agree...but I personally love movies like that. it lets you look deeper into the emotional development and connections between people instead of non stop acting *beep* I loved this movie, but each to his own right? The characters were very interesting I thought and it was cool to see them come together.

I agree. I found it boring, I did not like either Crudup or Moore and the sound trak sucked!
