my thoughts about 4.0's finale (and a possibilty for 5.0)

Well, okay, so neither of the ones I was rooting for (#9 and #6) managed to win, but at least the winner was someone I definitely wasn't expecting. I mean, #2, with his whole martial arts mastery and constantly repeating that pain was only temporary, seemed like the surefire one to win. He just caught a very unlucky break in that final treatment, although I was very surprised that he gave up that quickly. As for number 3 winning, I'm glad that a girl finally won (even though I wish it could've been #9), but she went from almost giving up several times to suddenly beating everybody a little too easily. Oh well, at least she wasn't as annoying as the winner of 2.0. Speaking of which, I really thought that number 6 was going to win it all this time and was really surprised when he gave up. It was kind of funny how he went from saying it was so important to win, to saying he needed to get on with his life. I guess he needed to come back to Solitary to try & find closure so he could move on.
Anyway, I had an idea for the (hypothetical) 5th season of the show. Instead of Val being the competitor's only companion, maybe they could add another AI, except this other AI would be a lot more malevolent. Instead of merely studying humans like Val claims to be doing, this other intelligence could have an underlying hatred of humanity and simply try to put as many of them out as possible. Maybe this other AI could be a failed "earlier" version of Val, and one of the final tests would involve the players working together to some degree to end its domination of the game and give Val full control again. I don't know if that would actually work out as well as I've imagined it, but it would certainly make things more interesting.
