Could have been a masterpiece...

...if not for the final act.

This beautiful, atmospheric, slow-burning Scorsese adventure film was a memorable ride for me. I was immersed in its dark, gloomy, fog-and-smoke-filled world. I would have preferred someone else instead of Garfield but even if I don’t really like him, he pulled this role with good conviction. Unfortunately, the last 40 minutes lost points because it became redundant has the characters repeated things they already had done a few times. This guy Kichijiro kept coming back for confession instead of deepening his relationship with the Padre or his own characterisation. 8/10
