Garfield Nominated for Silence instead

Garfield was excellent in Hacksaw Ridge, that performance warranted an Oscar nomination. However, Garfield's performance in Silence is far and away better than Hacksaw. What he did in Silence was absolutely incredible.
I realize he could've only been nominated for one of his roles, just wish it was Silence and not Hacksaw.

By the way, I think Hacksaw Ridge is an amazing movie. Don't want to take anything away from that.

Having now seen both I concur. His performance in this was much more nuanced and mature. He's come a long way since those dreadful Spiderman reboots.

I suggest you watch some of his earlier work. Garfield has always been one to watch — he won a BAFTA for his first movie, even. It was the writing more than Garfield that let Spider-Man down.

The first thing I saw him in was The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. He was great in that.

He showed lots of promise in "Never Let Me Go" a few years ago.

I agree.
