As If One Godfather Remake Wasn't Enough

We have a sequel to this scam of a movie and an insult to a classic masterpiece.
What next a remake of Scarface?
Oh wait my bad amitabh has allready done that in agneepath.
Truly shameful!

I gree. I saw "Scarface", and then "Agneepath" right after, and there were only a couple similarities, here it is:

The mother's of both protagonists hate and throw them out of their houses

The dinner scene were Al Pacino walks out of the restaurant like Amitabh

The protagonist's best friend falls for the protagonists' sister

TBoth protagonists die at the end.

Other then that I dont think Agneepath is a "ripoff" of "Scarface", they were both good in their own different ways.

Ppl, copy doesnt mean just putting the same scenes in the plagarised version as they r in the orignal version. If the opposite thing is done in the new version what shud it b called?

In Scarface, Al Pacino sold drugs and was himself a drug addict...................and in Agneepath it was directly the OPPOSITE, Amitabh did not take drugs, he also fought with his bosses because of tht.....

The story writers havent used tht much of their brains afterall.........

And what about the background music.........ditto

Although I like Agneepath more...........as compared to Scarface

But Sarkar & Godfather.............thers just no comparison
If a person has seen The Godfather prior to seeing Sarkar, it wud b really shockin for me if sum1 says tht he/she likes Sarkar more
The Story and Screenplay of Sarkar is grossly under-developed.......

I've seen Scarface and i gotta say it's one of the most overrated movies ever..it was ok but not as GREAT as everyone says it is my friends go crazy and say its one of the best movies they ever seen but it really is underdevloped and overrated

For that matter, there was a movie in the late 80s/early 90s with Mithun, that was a remake of Scarface. It had the same thing, two friends selling stuff on the road (The famous song in the movie - Duniya maange kyon maange, gaadi bangla roti) then getting involved in the underworld, then Mithun becomes the head of the underworld. Mithun's friend (Shakti Kapoor) is a womanizer, and one day Mithun finds his sister at Shakti's place (only he doesn't kill him)

Now THAT is a remake, not Agneepath.

have heard people complain about Godfather should not be copied and some have blamed Ramu for copying it and how it should be left alone. I am sorry to tell them that Godfather was already copied in Bollywood before Sarkar came along.

A film called, "Aatank Hi Aatank" is more of a copy of Godfather than Sarkar is. It starred Rajnikant, Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla. Scenes were directly lifted from The Godfather, even some of the dialogues are the same, they were just changed into Hindi. It came out around 1994/95 and flopped.

Those who say Godfather should not have been copied well I'm sorry but it already had been.

Sarkar is less of a copy of Godfather when compared to Aatank Hi Aatank.

you're really stupid to curse over a stupd movie. ram gopal varma has done some interesting stuff, like rangeela, but this movie was boring, overrated and a desi cinematized version of the godfather. i liked amitabh bachchan's monologues in the movie, but the story and the execution were terrible, the goons were cool though.

reply

Here we go again! Sarkar is less of a copy than Aatank Hi Aatank, even some dialogues from the godfather were lifted and translated into Hindi. How comes no-one gives a damn about that? Maybe because Ramgopal Varma made this one everyone had a go at him, yet those screaming and cursing Varma from being a copycat well you people should watch Aatank Hi Aatank which is more of a copy of Godfather than Sarkar but you probably won't!

IF YOU GOING TO BLAME PEOPLE FOR COPYING HOW ABOUT THE ONES WHO REALLY DID A COPY THAN THOSE WHO DIDN'T REALLY DO A COPY BUT HE HIMSELF SAID WAS A TRIBUTE TO GODFATHER!

reply

aatank hi aatank was aamir khan's worst movie. everyone knows about aatank hi aatank. but sarkar was also a copy of the godfather, if you can't see it, watch both movies again. a tribute in this case, means his version of the godfather or heavy elements borrowed from the film.

reply

Yes but what i am trying to say why criticise Varma and not talk about Aatank Hi Aatank? It was more of a copy of Godfather than Sarkar but people are blaming Varma for copying when someone else before him has done more of a copy of it.

reply

For everyone's kind information Atank hi atank was not the first copy of Godfather. Actually the very first one was Dharmatma of Firoze Khan (where Prem Nath was Dharmatma or desi Godfather), and then there was another 90s movie called "Zulm ki hukumat" (Govinda) where Dharmendra played Vito Coleone, it was a more blatant copy than even "Atank Hi Atank".

But Ramu's version can not exactly be put into that category. Hollywood itself has paid so many tributes to the Coppola classic. Then whats wrong in an honest adaptation by an Indian Director, who does not hide the fact. Besides, there are only a few similarities between the 2 stories - and which is shot differently and brilliantly.

Rightly deserved to be a hit.

Well earlier i used to like RGV coz he used to make different movies!! But he totally lost it with sarkar...boy u dont touch THE GODFATHER. i dont know why ppl liked it but i was snoring halfway through..(mayb i just fainted).

And then they give us all that crap of not calling Hindi film industry BOLLYWOOD. well ofcourse if u copy HOLLYWOOD then we will call u BOLLYWOOD.
and look at the credits of sarkar 2. karan johar as director..gimme a break..
SOMEBODY STOP EM!!!!!!!!!

reply

Atleast he was gutsy enough to admit that he was making a remake of The Godfather. But the greats in Indian cinema (Mahesh Bhatt, for instance) will lift entire movies frame by frame and not even give a nod to the original.
