What Happen To Charlie Fineman It Never Tells You The End Is There Going To Be A Reign Over Me 2?

The in-laws have him committed, so he goes away for a year, gets out, takes a gun--loaded this time--into Grand Central and starts shooting until he's taken down. It was left ambiguous but I thought it was obvious this is what the movie was telling us.
