Do Nigerians really go crazy for obese women?

What I mean is, would someone like Mia really be considered "malnourished" and "dying" in Nigerian culture? She's not anorexic looking, she's really very healthy looking with both muscle tone and curves. I think any culture would consider her pretty. I think the very basic standard of beauty is the same throughout the world, which is symmetry. A pretty woman from Nigeria would most likely be considered pretty in America as well. I can understand the doctors preferring larger women, but I seriously doubt they would think Mia was hideous.

in a word yes, in Adrica and some other countries, fat is a sign of good health so the larger women were looked on a better looking. So glad i dont live in Africa

They still burn and torture children accused of being witches in Nigeria, so I really don't care what they think about fat women.

Well to be honest I'm nigerian and they don't. I just watched this movie for the first time, and i wonder why they showed it that way. women like Mia are very okay looking women in nigeria. but you know, every man has his own type.

Due to western style beauty paegents thin womomen are more acceptable now in Nigeria and other African countries.

Years ago in this country women with a little meat on them were preferred to skinny. I meant you had at least enough money to eat and you were not sick. To this day I think men prefer real curves to skinny. Not fat but curvy and not size 2

No they do not, at all. Maybe a century ago but not today. It's the same way you can say centuries ago the tudors in England saw "plump" women as more appealing than skinnier ones but that isn't true of now

No way. This is another example of how some idiot in Hollywood can sit down and write stories about places they have never visited!
As a Nigerian, I was, and still am shocked at the high rate of FAT women in America - people will laugh at them daily in Nigeria. Of course you dare not call them 'Fat' here, but in a hypocritical way they are Big-boned, Plus size, etc.
Hey @brian_alleyne: I am sure you are one of those illiterate idiots who think Africa is a country, unless you meant "Adrica", that you wrote. Can you even recognize Africa if given a map of the world?

Not in Nigeria, but apparently in Mauritania (another country in Africa) they feel that way.
