so hilarious. sucks that it never showed in theaters

I saw it! It's a ripoff Its huge!

I know what you mean that it is a shame that it did not show in theaters because I think it would have done very good in the theaters if it did come out. That is the thing when it comes out on DVD that it will be one of those rare gems that you find when at a video store trying to find something to watch for entertainment purposes.

Yes it will be a great cult classic to watch but it is a shame that the wife Mindy did not appear topless in the movie. I thought she was hot with a great body on her!

I don't get it. I didn't laugh once. The script is so badly written I wouldn't even go so far as to call it an actual script. Suddenly there's a lot of violence, for no clear reason other than Schneider wanting to play badass for a change (albeit a "funny" badass).
I just didn't get it. It might have been one of he most incompetent comedies I've ever seen, and I can forgive a lot when it comes to comedies. As long as they make me laugh, everything comes in second, if even that. But in this case, all that's apparent are the huge flaws. The jokes are few and far between, and they're never ever particularly funny.

If you didn't laugh once at this film, you must have these expectations of humour that no one else has, because i laughed my ass off at least 10 times, particularly at the training montage when David Carradine dropped cigarette ash on Rob when he was bench pressing.

reply

expectations of humour? now that's humour.

reply

yeah, film was funny. no argument. very jarring on occasions, plenty of misses, but overall some great moments.

a perfect blend of the kung fu and prison genre. what more could you want?

Great movie to watch when you're drunk

reply

if you watch this movie without any expectations... or hoping it would be a hilarious comedy, you would find yourself laughing. i didnt expect the movie to be so funny, so in the end the movie was much better than i thought and i had great laughs!

the same happened with steve carrell's Get Smart. i went into the cinema without expecting much, and i ended up laughing so hard!

reply

i died of laughter watching this. The man is a legend.

I'm glad I went into this film with ZERO expectations. If I would of gone in expecting some Madison or Apatow type of production(though they make some *beep* too), I might of been let down. This film has that "B-movie" feel to it in the camera-work and editing aspects of the film. But overall, I can actually say I enjoyed the film for what it was.

I will still give this film a 4 or 5 out of 10, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it....and it doesn't mean it's of great quality either.

When "Shorts" is talking to Big Stan about his long lost Asian lover, and how he was such a punk for losing her, then STan asks how and Shorts tells him he killed her....well it was fuggin hilarious. Easily the funniest scene in the film, and very unexpected... to bad it was one of the few moments where the script/dialogue was witty and the acting timely.

That is how I usually go into watching comedies and then there are some that you are expecting it to be really good and it turns out awful. Like for example Year One and Land Of The Lost were two comedies that were awful to watch!

Hey Jupiter Storm,
I'm not one of the idiot 15 year old kids who you assume are the only ones that would like a movie like this. Quite the contrary..I'm 45, have seen thousands of movies in my lifetime, and many of them I enjoy while others I couldn't really care about. I actually enjoyed this movie because it's not meant to be a big budget Hollywood comedy that is meant to appeal to the masses. It wasn't made for the purpose of trying to entertain a large segment of the population so that it becomes a super successful blockbuster. Sometimes the worst critically reviewed movies become cult favorites. Rocky Horror Picture Show was universally trashed, and failed in its box office run. But it wasn't the great acting, incredible dialogue, or the plotline that created all of its fans. It's the whole feel of the movie, the irreverence, the outrageousness that people fell in love with. Same with Eraserhead. Critics trashed it, failed at the box office, but is on many people's lists of favorite movies. And even with that, a large percentage of the population just just like them, think they stink, and just don't get it. But there's a small percentage of people who think they are great. Who's to argue with them. If they like it, more power to them. One should never insult or put down another person for enjoying something that you absolutely hate. It's their taste, and there's alone. More power to them I say.

You have to realize that not all movies are made for the mainstream public and meant to appeal to a large demographic. Sometimes artists (actors in this case) make a movie on a small budget and without studio oversight dictating what scenes or material in the film gets to stay or gets cut. Sometimes people make movies that are interesting to them, fun to do, and made the way they want to make it. It's not meant to be mainstream by any means. That's precisely the reason the movie was never theatrically released in the US. The studio/distributor demanded cuts and edits to be made so that it can be a film that they could target to a larger demographic simply to make it a better box office money maker.

Rob Schneider insisted that he would not make those required cuts/edits because he wanted to make this movie the way he wanted to regardless of the fact that it wouldn't appeal to a larger demographic and would be less financially successful. Keeping his artistic integrity, he chose to keep the movie the way it is and bypass a US Theatrical release of the film.

Sometimes money isn't the only factor to comedic actors (and all actors for that matter). He made the movie he wanted and didn't want to release a version of the film that is decided by the money makers and studio heads. That's called integrity... something that too many actors have disregarded and compromised soley for the almighty dollar. It's refreshing to see someone who still has it and isn't afraid to use it.

The film was also released theatrically in over 15 foreign countries, but just not in the US. With the foreign box office, combined with US (and worldwide) DVD sales and rentals, as well as the receipts from PPV buys, the movie will more than make back its investment and show a profit.

If the movie isn't your cup of tea and you don't find it enjoyable, entertaining, or funny, than so what. No movie is enjoyable to all who see it.

But what I find most disturbing is the fact that you're wasting your time on this movie's discussion board and berating others who enjoyed it, falsely assuming that anyone who did can't be older than 15 years old. That those who liked it don't know what humor (or a good movie) is, and coming across like you're the only judge of good (or funny) movies and if others don't agree with you that there's something wrong with them (or they're just silly children).

First off, humor (as any intelligent person should know) is strictly an individual deal. What's funny to one (or a hundred) people may not be funny to someone else (or 100 different people). Why should you give a crap if someone else finds something funny that you don't? That's a psychological problem you need to deal with...not concerning yourself with other peoples ideas of funny.

Second, why in the world would you constantly frequent a board of a movie that you didn't enjoy, and make numerous posts about it? That's really creepy and disturbing behavior. Generally, if someone doesn't like a movie, they either don't waste their time posting negative comments about it (most people), or just make 1 post expressing their opinion about it and stating that it didn't appeal to them (and possibly listing the reasons why). That would be the rest of the people who just bypass the boards and there reasoning for their post about the movie is usually to let people know that it wasn't enjoyable for you because of such and such reasons. This is done to assist people seeking out various viewpoints of the movie, from both fans of its star and non fans as well, to hopefully get a wide view of opinions so that they can make an educated decision based on the info provided from both biased and non biased sources. This gives the consumer a well rounded group of differring opinions to consider if they are thinking of going to see the movie or renting/buying the DVD.

But when someone constantly posts on a board of a movie they didn't like, as well as putting down those who did like it by insinuating a lack of taste in good movies, or not knowing what humor is, along with assuming that those who did enjoy it and find it funny can't be any more than 15 years old and have little or no knowledge in knowing what constitutes "humor", "funny" or just what a "good movie" is...well, that speaks volumes about the person posting.

I could go on and on about how disturbing and childish that is, but I'd rather not. Hopefully you can read this post as an intelligent, mature adult and be humble and understand what I'm saying and why, and not take personal offense to it. Even the smartest, most worldly person, if they are being true and honest with themselves, could learn something and view things differently when they are presented with a POV like this that they really never thought about or took time to consider. And often, it helps the person grow as an individual from it and become a better person. I hope you can do just that.

Cheers,
Dr Z

Bravo Dr Z. I'm 49, I've seen thousands of movies too, and this is one of my 50 or so favorite comedy films of all time (others on the list would be Airplane, Repo Man, Groundhog Day, Danny Roane First Time Director, and Puff Puff Pass) because it's... hilarious. Witty like Monty Python and silly like Monty Python and sometimes deliberately dumb like Monty Python. Getting all the nuances of this movie and chuckling at them time and again is just not about being 15.
