Johnny & Milly step siblings dating?

I was just wondering if anyone thought of that after their parents got married. I know it's just a movie but that just don't sit right with me. Daphne dates Johnny's dad and convinces Milly to date Johnny. Yet no one thinks they would be step siblings if Daphne marries Johnny's dad?

They are not blood related, that's the end of it and it's not like they grew up together.

Isn't step sibling kind of an oxymoron?
