What were Mandy's motives?

Was she always crazy? Why did she team up with Emmet to kill her friends? And then why kill them but save Garth? Nothing made sense.

I give this film a 3/10. And I'm taking 2 points off for the over-the-top editing, crappy color correction, and headache-inducing shaky cam.

So you don't even get the absolute basics, but you say it made no sense?

It's all in there.

Maybe pay attention next time :)

It was confusing to me too, until you reflect on the material:

While the opening doesn't show the popular kids being as cruel to Mandy as they were with Emmett, it's reasonable to assume that before she got "hot over the summer" she was also tormented by these kids. Thus she and Emmett hated them.

When Mandy discovered her beauty the summer before she saw an opportunity to exact revenge -- by manipulating the popular kids to think she was their friend while framing Emmett as the murderer. She never intended on killing herself, especially not after discovering the power that came with her beauty. It's not hard to buy that Mandy and Emmett resented their persecutors to the point of solving the problem by killing 'em all, especially in an age where school shootings are fairly frequent.

Another way to look at it is that Mandy was just a sociopath: With her newfound beauty came the realization that she could now manipulate everyone to her heart's content; thus she got everyone killed just because she could.

She decided to save Garth because she fell in love with him.
