BEWARE THE BOOKS!!

Please reply with your opinion regarding this letter bulletin below.
The following is taken exactly as printed from http://www.scionofzion.com/conversations_with_god.htm:

Beware of the book, Conversations with God, Dr. James Dobson talked about this book twice this week. It is devastating and parents and Christian schools need to be aware of this. Do pass it on to church/e-mail addressees. Parents, Grand parents, Aunts, Uncles: Please pay special attention not only to the what your kids watch on TV, and in movie theaters, and the music they listen to, but we must also be alert regarding the books they read... Two particular books, Conversations with God, and Conversations with God for Teens, written by Neil D. Walsh, sound harmless enough by their titles alone. These books have been on the New York Times best sellers, list for a number of weeks these publications makes truth of the statement,, "Don't judge a book by its cover/title."

The author purports to answer various questions from kids using the "voice of God". However, the "answers" that he gives are not
biblically-based and go against the very infallible word of God. For instance (and I paraphrase, when a girl asks the question "why am I a lesbian?" his answer is that she was born that way because of genetics (just as you were born right-handed, with blue eyes, etc.). Then he tells her to go out and "celebrate" her differences.

Another girls poses the question "I am living with my boyfriend. My parents say that I should marry him because I am living in sin. Should I marry him?" His reply is "Who are you sinning against? Not me, because you have done nothing wrong."

Another question asks about God's forgiveness of sin. His reply - I do not forgive anyone because there is nothing to forgive. There is no such thing as right or wrong and that is what I have been trying to tell everyone do not judge people. People have chosen to judge one another and this is wrong because the rule is "judge not lest ye be judged".

And the list goes on. Not only are these books the false doctrine of devils but in some instances even quote (in error) the Word of God.
These books (and others like it) are being sold to school children (The Scholastic Book Club) and we need to be aware of what is being fed to our children. Our children are under attack so I pray that you be sober and vigilant about teaching your kids the Word of God and guarding their exposure to worldly mediums because our adversary, the devil, roams about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). And how many of us know that lions usually hunt for the slowest, and weakest and YOUNGEST OF ITS PREY.

I totally agree that this movie and the books that started it are against the God of the Bible and Jesus. I pray that my reviews of this movie showing that it is of the occult will help people realize that there are writers and directors and actors who would have you think anything you want about religion and God except that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven and truth. Avoid this movie and dont let your loved ones read this book.

"Man I feel sorry for you guys"

Me too.

WTF are they talking about?

The last time I checked, The Old Testament was written by guys over 2,000 years ago who said that God was speaking to them.

Anyone who thinks THOSE guys were less manipulative and more helpful than this guy needs to get out more. Hey, while you're all busy adhering to the letter of your precious scripture which you think somehow negates EVERYTHING else in the way of philosophy, religion, or ancient (pre-Biblical) wisdom, check this out:

There ARE other truths out there, ya know.

I don't pity them... but i feel REALLY sorry for their kids. They'll never be allowed to decide for themselves having seen both sides of the argument.

"Yeah? Well, you know... that's just like, uh... your opinion, man"

reply

'Father, forgive them. For they know not what they do.'

Couple of things...

Did God need to contemplate those words, sent from the incarnation of his nearly crucified son? And if he did, DID God forgive 'them'?. And if not or so, who were 'they'? The guys with the hammers and spikes? Their mothers and/or fathers? The Religious Elite? The Righteous? The wrongly righteous? Us, all of us?

And if they didn't know what they were doing (crucifying the Son of God), why didn't they? I mean, were they so afraid of someone who showed so little fear in the face of their fatally vengeful righteousness that they couldn't feel anything BUT fear, opposite Christ? Perhaps what 'they' didn't know, was that, by killing Christ, 'they' were putting THEMSELVES on the cross. I mean, maybe they were crucifying an opportunity to love something or someone they felt challenged them. A divine creation, like them, but different; sent or prayed for to aid them in their next step - toward an unconditional love for all creation, and a tolerance for all that comes in peace to thrive and share their particle of God's creation. A chance to do that which would have allowed them to better know their faith (not embrace or feed or give wages or lands or freedom to something or one), but share their love nonetheless, toward a thriving, peaceful particle of God's creation, that spoke discomfortingly to their egos of a oneness. If they could have tolerated and found some worth in that/him, maybe they might have been able to know why he was there? Why anything's there. To exercise love. Not acquiesce, but love - the experience of life. I figure Fear and the Devil would've needed to regroup in a big way. Hitler might have been born to very different parents into a very different country if, instead of pointing at Christ and blaming him, the religious 'elite' had taken a deep breath, gathered their faith and asked him a few heartfelt questions about his point of view and how he got it.

Fear the Devil, and he's won - He exists, more so than your faith in God. Fear God, and the Devil not only exists in you, you've just thrown him a three base hit. Practice loving the particles or sum totals of that which God puts before you (question everything that frightens you, with hope that your exploration will lead you both to God's reason for putting you together) and the Devil might soon tire of his scoreless home runs. He'll be playing toss and hit with himself, far from your hood.

When you point a scolding finger North do you ever get the feeling you've just created a resentful finger pointing South? If you want, next time that happens, take a step to the side, walk along the arm connected to that finger pointing back at you, and look closely at the face, then at the eyes. In them, you just might get a glimpse of things that resemble parts within you. Parts you don't particularly like. As well as some you'd be surprised you do! You might.... Or don't...

I think the Devil needs fear to exist. Love, to the Devil, is like air to a fish. And I don't think there's immunity - sometimes it rains - a lot - for everyone. It's like being under water. Question is, are you going to worry about the Devil taking you down? Or are you gonna take the opportunity to love the rain God's sending you, because, deep down, you're still not convinced you won't drown, and this is God's way of telling you you're ready to grow with some stronger weather? Or do you feel absolutely convinced you won't drown and everything else WILL, unless it does just what YOU'VE done with YOUR heart and do you need to be reminded of that? You can stand there and rail at the rain, try to reach up and push the cloud away, or you can watch the grass drink, open the rain barrel lid, pack up the car, climb a tree, build a boat out of one (big or small) .... , OR, if you know the rain's not going to kill you, you can walk over to the the person railing at the rain, listen to them until you think you've understood their grievance and wonder if you'd feel better if YOU did that. And then rail away or get back to your boat, or whatever YOUR response to the rain was - cause THEY might need to ponder THEIR reaction ...

It's all God, to this human. And if Christ's plea on our behalf was documented by a woman, she might have heard him say, 'Mother, forgive them...'. Regardless, I document what I feel and how I respond to what I feel. Not always in that order, but I'm working on it. And more often than not, the world around me tells me more about myself than I could ever imagine. Just like y'all in these posts. We can't help but share. Try not to for a few minutes. Every breath you take changes the world close to you. We CAN choose some of what and how we share. That's, I think, why we're here.

Fear, like our bodies, wants to be bigger and better. Love hovers patiently, everywhere, waiting to be used.

That's to Brian's request for a response to 'Beware ..'

The movie? Gee... I wonder if raindrops criticize each other on their way to the ocean? Or do they relish their singular contribution to the eternal cycle of experience as much as they anticipate their imminent little splash into the countless points of view, the morphing prisms, that travel beside them on their bewildering launch from the cloud that bore them? I say 'launch' because, to a raindrop (stay with me here if you want...or don't), the ocean is up/Heaven/Peace/Togetherness/God ... - irrefutable experience that, from my point of view, illustrates the idea that, ultimately, there is no separation. I see the film as a drop, coming into the pond of our notions of existence. One that feels warm to the me I am today.

Cheers.

this is one of the best posts i've ever had the pleasure to read. not just on imdb, but anywhere. lots of great food for thought, but selfishly, i was most fascinated with the parts that i could relate to. i have a lot of goals and things to aim for as a human, which i never see others talking about. i'm ok with that, but it was really nice that apparently they cross someone else's mind too heh.

i can't say enough good things about that post, though.

To all those Christians decrying the CWG movie, books, etc, I would say:

I think Gamaliel, as chronicled in Acts 5:34-39, had the right attitude. Rather than fearing or trying to stamp out some opposing view point, put it to the "God test", if you will. Several Jewish leaders were threatened by the Christian apostles, who they felt were destroying their religion and their people with their Christian doctrine. They sought to quash this movement quickly, even intending to kill them:

34But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time.

35And he said to them, "Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men.

36"For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing.

37"After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of (AZ)the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered.

38"So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown;

39but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God."

Truth always prevails, in the end. How can it not? All that is false falls away, eventually, as it must -- because it is not real, but a lie.

The interesting thing to note in this passage is that there must have been something to this new Christian faith, or it would have failed a lot sooner, yes?

God can not be put in a box, or completely known -- "his ways are past finding out", says the apostle Paul.

No problem, jknil02. When I posted this letter in the original post, i did not state whether i agreed or disagreed with it.

This is the first time I will now make a commment. I agree with you, I found this letter to be very unloving towards people. In fact, i was so taken back by this letter that I posted it here to get other peoples reactions.

Ironically, you replied calling me ridiculous and prejudice. Later on you went to point out "judge not lest ye be judged". A very good point, and one that we should all remember, even when it comes to people we disagree with.

Thank you for apology, however even if I were to say these comments you disagreed with, we can choose to still be tolerant and not judge one another, as you pointed out.

Thank you for your reply, you and I are on the same page it seems. Thank you for spreading the word, and showing others that there is another way.

Take care,

-Brian.

Dear Lord, grow up with your *beep* Bible. The Bible was revised and rewritten plenty of times, therefore to believe everything in it is purely obsessive and retarded. It doesn't matter if the author of Conversations with God is right or not, all that matters is what you can get from it. From an intellectual point of view I can say it is a very brillant book, only for openminded people though. And that being said from a uni psychology student, not a god damn blinded religion follower.

Make your own opinion, and that goes for everything in life as well as spirituality. Enough said.

Funny stuff. This is a case of a slightly more open-minded self-proclaimed god-botherer being criticised by another CLOSE-minded god-botherer who through superstition believes that the desert-baked rantings of 2000+ years ago are more relevant to contemporary life. The former is a 'new-wage' adherent who's found a way to market god for the politically correct generation, the latter is the religious equivalent of an arch-conservative, grasping on for dear life to a book of rules that often contradict each other.

I feel sad for ANYONE who believes that ANY religious figure is telling the truth about something so ridiculous as the voice of an imaginary god!
WAKE UP and smell the BS. Religion, like war and politics, is a power racket. ALL religions are based on vague faith in the unknown, and are infinitely marketable, an opportunists wet dream. Maybe SOME religious authorities believe their own BS. I'm willing to bet most are far too clever to swallow such rubbish!
