Spoiler: Did they or didn't they....

This may already have been asked but I didn't see it so please answer or point me to it.

Did they or didn't they stay together at the end?

Abby said something like...Nothing has changed. You still have your money, your career, your house, Sophie.... And then she made her comment about breaking the butterfly on the wheel. Did they stay together or not? I say yes with Abby calling the shots (i.e., breaking the butterfly/Neil Randall) going forward. Yes? No? Why?

reply

I can't see her staying with him...whether he wants to or not. He has no say, and it's all up to her. Only a weak woman would wait around for her husband to cheat a third time (after Denver and after Judy, who's next?). And Abby was far from weak as was proven.

I can see your point but...still not convinced. She stuck around after Denver. She's become pretty twisted in the process of extracting her revenge.

She didn't "become" twisted. That kind of twisted doesn't just show up when it's convenient. If they stay together, it'll be for Sophie, which seldom works. Neil, even if he never so much as looks at another woman, will never be trusted, and he knows it. However, I don't think she understands that, as she wasn't after just revenge. It was an excessively excessive (to the point of excess) ruse, which suggests she was trying to teach a lesson, or something. I think he truly loved her, despite the affairs. She could have hurt him more by just confronting him, again. She didn't have to break him, which is what actually happened. Even a psycho doesn't break a horse that will be put to pasture. The only victim in this story is Sophie, as is the case every time. If my wife did that to me, for whatever awful reason imaginable, I'm not sure that causing me to believe that my child(ren) were at risk may be forgivable, despite whatever horrible, even unforgivable, thing I may have allegedly done. She's a psychopath, and he's a sociopath. He believes his lies (which probably explains his business success) and she doesn't. Not much left to work with after that.

Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.

But why would she give up Sophie?
