Scratched DVD, What happened in the last 10 min.?
My DVD cut out on me right after he and his wife got home. It sure looked like she was about to say she was in on the whole thing.
Can someone please fill me in on how this ended???
Kind of a big twist ending.
But it seems you saw it coming.
The wife was in on the whole thing. She set it all up to teach him a lesson. It turns out they were never in any real danger. The gun that Brosnan was waving at them was never loaded. Their money did not get burned, and Butler kept his job (the booklet his wife handed in was blank paper). The babysitter was innocent. Whenever Brosnan threatened to call her, he was calling an invalid number.
All of this was done to test Butler and see if he'd own up, and reveal what kind of person he was.
That means the acting from two of the characters (the wife and the abductor) were spot on, which is hard to believe. Note, I said the characters were good actors, not the actors themselves. They played Butler like a fool, and very convincingly. In real life, people don't act that convincingly unless they've had acting lessons, and these people wouldn't have, so it is a bit far fetched.
Overall, the movie didn't do much for me, but the twist ending left me something to think about. That's the only lasting thing it left on me.
