I constantly feel like Andrew McCarthy is a tragic miscast for the role of Joe Bennett. Is it just me or does anyone else completely fail to see him fit into the role of a billionaire executive? No pun intended but he seriously just looks like an Average Joe to me. I think he McCarthy might even be better off playing Griffin instead.
I agree that Andrew McCarthy is a poor choice for the role of Joe Bennett. Although I'm a big fan of some of his movies, I think he lacks that powerful, dominating edge that's needed to make this character work. I know what the show is aiming for (obviously this is the Carrie / Mr. Big relationship of the show), but it's just not believable enough. I think McCarthy and Lindsay Price need to step up their game, which I think will help but not completely fix the problem, and I think the writing could stand to be a lot better and a lot more consistent.
In my opinion, for this to work, Bennett needs to be a bit more mysterious and hard to get - intimidating even. He's too ordinary. He needs to be the flame to Victory's moth. Therefore, Victory needs to be more secure in her personal and professional life and the writers should emphasize that Bennett is the only thing that makes her feel helpless and out of control. As of right now, Victory seems to be falling apart over everything, so her relationship drama isn't nearly as effective as it could be if she were more put together in other areas of her life.
i agree with IPlay. I also think that Lindsay Price is wrongly cast. She is the prettiest of the three women but her acting sucks. It seems that she is always teary eyed on just almost everything that is happening around her. No one wants to see tears it be a Wednesay night or a Friday night..10pm or 9pm does not matter but either re-cast Victory Ford and Joe Bennett or just let them go away and introduce a different character into the mix.
I think the guy Samantha got serius with on SATC (prior to the actor) would've been perfect for the role but I vaguely remember reading somewhere he either died or had cancer a few years back.
I agree with MagentaMSI on James Remar, lol. He has something really charming. And yes, he has that powerful dominating edge that would make him perfect for playing Joe Bennett.
In the book, Joe isn't this stunning man-and his obnoxious as hell. In the book, he's older than McCarthy. He's great in the role. He's taken it and made it his own.
"Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permission of another."
I like him as Joe. I've just finished watching the first season and the last episode shows him for what he really is: a harmless, straight-forward, pragmatic and results-driven guy. Nothing wrong with that; it's not unheard of in the business world.
Not every billionaire is obnoxious, takes over the room, and thinks he's more worthy than the people standing around him. I kind of like Joe's compulsive streak, too.
