Doumyouji's mispronunciations

Can someone explained to me why Doumyouji always mispronounces things? It's a running joke in the manga/anime/series etc., but I'm curious as to why it happens. Do even Japanese people not have a firm grip on the language sometimes? I really know nothing about the Japanese language, so any insight would be great.

I think it happens because japanase use kanji to write and a same ideogram can have a different meaning depending on the context it's used...

Sorry, this is really late but thought I'd jump in.

Vivilp is right and there's a bit more to it. Kanji characters can be put together to create new words, and when that happens the new word in pronunciation may sound nothing like the characters. That's why Tsukasa sometimes will say the words as their independent character names, and not realize that when strung together they're pronounced in a different way.

He's not completely wrong because he recognizes independent characters, he just doesn't pay attention and doesn't see that it's changed pronunciation.

I've got an English example, which isn't exactly the same but might give you an idea about what Tsukasa is doing wrong:

Tsukasa would probably say the word "readjust" as "read + just" when it's supposed to be "re + adjust."

Like I said, I don't think English has a comparable example but that's as close as I can think to illustrate what his mind may be doing/

Sokka: My first girlfriend turned into the moon.
Zuko: That's rough, buddy.

Thanks for explaining that, everyone. It makes much more sense to me now. :)

Well...I'm not sure about this, but in an earlier episode, Rui explains to Tsukashi that he is so lonely and all he wants is love, and that his mind was 'warped'. I think that could be the reason behind his pronounciation? I don't see how two and two can fit, but that's the only explanation I have for it.

Stop comparing Twilight to Harry Potter. They are both fantastic in their own ways.

In the manga Tsukushi also sort of Chalks it up to Tsukasa knowing other languages. http://www.onemanga.com/Hana_Yori_Dango/26/05/

I don't know but it seems silly to have a leader who says Humingyay instead of Hemingway.
