I've only seen the Japanese one, but it's pretty good. I'm not a big fan of dramatic love stories and HYD managed to be silly, romantic & sweet so I liked it. I wouldn't say it's my favorite drama ever, but it is certainly polished and well-executed.
You know, this thread got me thinking and I think so far my favorite Jdorama/mystery might be Trick. It's certainly flawed, but I enjoyed it a lot.

This version, the Korean version is by far the best in my book, the Japanese was kind of all right, the Taiwanese was great too, I loved the take on the romantic scenes and the music. Still all these version didn't pick up on some of the stuff that was in the manga, like the number of times Dom and Makino were attempting to have sex.

Hana Yori Dango was a close second; it did have the best version of Rui/Lei/Ji Hoo
Boys Over Flowers is last, had the best clothes though, at least for the guys.

I agree the same as you listed, Meteor Garden is my personal favorite.
shareI've only seen the J-drama and I'll try Meteor Garden soon. But I know what it's like with the different country remakes,, the first one you watch always ends up your favourite.
I can't imagine another Makino or Tsukasa.

Well this one and then the Korean adaptation, even the Chinese one.
The Taiwanese one made me cringe, I don't get it, the acting was terrible, and that guys hair just bothered me. 😕 At least the dudes in the other three coincidentally all had great hair, sorry! 😫
