Best gore/death metal band?

I love Cannibal Corpse, but at their peak, I feel Carcass were pretty much untouchable (Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious is an absolute masterpiece. Bill Steer and Mike Amott rule!!). Any thoughts?

reply

I thoroughly enjoyed all Carcass albums from Reek Of Putrefaction through Heartwork. My favourites are Necroticism...and Symphonies of Sickness.
I my mind they absolutely slaughter Cannibal Corpse.. and I concur, Bill Steer and Mike Amott do rule.
Similarily, who is the best vocalist for Cannibal Corpse ? Either Chris Barnes,or George Corpsegrinder. I'm probably amongst the people who prefer Fisher. Kill, is a solid release, and its refreshing to see perennial favourites Cannibal Corpse are content to churn out consisten albums.

reply

I've seen Cannibal Corpse a few times and think Corpsegrinder is a great frontman. He has a more powerful voice than Chris Barnes, although lyrically, you could argue that Barnes was Cannibal Corpse to a large extent.

Have you met any of the members of Cannibal Corpse or Carcass? I bumped into Corpsegrinder in a McDonalds once, after a show. We shook hands and he seemed like quite a nice guy. I've also met Mike Amott and Bill steer. Amott was alright, but had a bit of an attitude about him. Bill Steer is a lovely guy. Very quiet, but always happy to sign things and chat to fans. He's very down to earth, which I totally respect him for as I think he's an awesome guitarist.

reply

I think Corpsegrinder is a better singer/frontman. How come nobodys mentioned deicide?I think theyre right up to par with Cannibal Corpse.

Barnes and Fisher sound pretty much the same to me, heh heh.

Here are the ones I know of, and have cd's for:

Cannibal Corpse (4)
Six Feet Under (4)
Obituary (1)
Carcass (1)
Deicide (2)
Suffocation (1)
Hate Eternal (1)
Morbid Angel (3)
Brutal Truth (1)
Slayer (9)

The # indicates how many cd's I have for each group.

I've also got cd's by Sepultura, Dragonlord, Inner Thought, and The Project Hate, but I dunno if they classify as death metal.

I like the Death albums I have ("Scream Bloody Gore" and "Leprosy") but I bought Possessed's "Seven Churches" and didn't like it at all, though I acknowledge it was ahead of its time. I own Morbid Angel's "Covenant" but am not familiar with their other stuff. There are rumours of a Carcass reunion. It would be awesome if it actually happened, though I'm not holding my breath!

reply

What do you think of the new Corpse cd?

reply

I'm ashamed to say I haven't bought it yet! But the reviews I've read say it's one of their best, so I will get around to it. There's a version with a DVD right? Is the DVD any good?

reply

I couldn't get it(DVD)
The DVD is only available in Europe, I heard its a bunch of live shows with awesome camera angles.
I'll probably find it at my local shop soon.

Depending on what type of sound you like is what makes for a good choice in bands. For death metal I like Cannibal and Incantation. They are probably one of my favorite death metal band right now. As for gore grind I think that Exhumed, impaled, and Hemdale are really good, which is a spawn from Carcas. I think I like them more than Carcas only because of the production involved, but that's not to take anything from the band.

Morbid angel is pretty good, alters of Madness number 1!
Great albums:

Anatomy is destiny-Exhumed
Diabolical Conquest-Incantation
Tomb of the Mutilated-Cannibal Corpse

You hear what Guest just said, mother *beep*

reply

Heh, take Slayer off my list, they're not actually death metal. But it sure does represent that in their lyrics and artwork....

And maybe someone could help me here, I heard a song off of Music Choice/Metal on tv, I forget if it was by Cannibal Corpse, or Six Feet Under, but I think the name of the song was "Torture Killer," anyone know what I mean? The band name could have been Torture Killer as well, and I think the singer was either Barnes or Fisher. Thanks.

Six Feet Under

Torture Killer is a song on teh album Maximum Violence by Six Feet Under, great song!
Now then, there is a band called Torture Killer that was a tribute type band and caught teh attention of Chris Barnes, he now sings for them as a side project. Check out their latest album Swarm.

Bi!tch, I have just started.

Thank you.

Hey there guys. Im a new fan of cannibal corpse. I just herd Nothing Left To Mutilte and i *beep* loved it. Is all there cds the same type of stff?

Six Feet Under - their new album Commandment kicks ass

reply

I like technical death metal acts such as Nile, Cryoptopsy, and Suffocation. I totally dislike Cannibal Corpse.

reply

DEVOURMENT are the kings of death metal.

Old Cannibal Corpse while Chris Barnes was still around is good. Especially Tomb of the Mutilated and The Bleeding. Stripped, Raped and Strangled is one of the best death songs of all time IMHO.

Suffocation kicks ass to.

Hell yeah! I think I like their current line up best (it's about the 10th variation?!), although I'd prefer Wayne Knupp (RIP) on vocals.

As far as I know the only difference between censored and uncensored CC albums is the artwork. I remember all CC was banned here in NZ for ages (early 90's) based purely on the cover art, pretty stupid really. Didn't stop me importing em.

Good old Real Groovy, I'm there every other weekend raiding their horror selection.

I've definitely seen the completely uncensored Tomb of the Mutilated on shelves (including original cover with corpse eating chick-corpse out) and lyrics in the sleave. I remember it well because many years ago I sent one of my best mates to purchase it with his mother (hehehe) and she had a massive spaz out over it

Never seen the original "Bleeding" cover on shelves though, only the "zoomed in" one. To be honest I kind of lost interest in Cannibal Corpse after "Vile". Moved on to other things.

I've pretty much cleaned them out of Friday the 13th (1, 2 3 & 8), and about 20 other titles. Not sure how they go about replacing classic stuff like that. Some of it's 2nd hand.

Baby Killer! Awesome track. I bet your mum flipped when she found that.

Ichi the Killer is great. Gotta love Takashi Miike, crazy bastard!

Definitely some great cheap stuff around.

Ahhh only "worried", that's not so bad then

I love Baby Killer, I have about 3 different versions of it now.

"138" (Wayne on vocals), "Butcher the Weak" version 1 (Mike on vocals) & "Butcher the Weak" version 2 (Ruben on vocals).

Mike Majewski was actually kind enough to mail me the first version of the album free of charge. He's a good guy!

Have you heard of an ultra brutal death band called Putridity? From Italy. They are SUPER f#cking brutal dude, heavily influenced by bands like Devourment, Disgorge, Cephalotripsy et al. Check them out if you haven't already

Yeah a music video would go down well!

The original version is still the best.

Track down Butcher the Weak (original release) if you can and check it out, the Baby Killer version has more traditional death vocals that you can actually make out a lot of the lyrics on, they also do an incredibly kickass cover of "The Pickaxe Murders" by Cannibal Corpse (one of my fav CC tracks). You thought it was over, it's not over, I came back! I BROUGHT MY AXE!!!

Get Devourment CDs from Devourment themselves, that's what I do.

Email Mike and he'll sort you out. They take PayPal.

Pretty cheap I think, I bought their first DVD for about $15 NZD maybe? Something like that. Mike sent me "Butcher the Weak" for free.

Cheaper than buying locally anyway that's for sure.
