Why does the dork from 3rd Rock think he's a real actor?

is that a joke?

any twat off the street could have done the same job

reply

Dude, are you kidding me? Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an awesome actor! He's probably the best young American actor out there. I mean he's on par with Ryan Gosling and way better than this Shia Lafluff or whatever his name is. Forget 3rd Rock...blah blah. Have you seen "Brick" or "Mysterious Skin". Dude can act! Maybe you haven't seen some of his work but saying he can't act is like saying Michael Phelps can't swim!

reply

ryan grosslink as one of the best young actors? man you got horrible choice wow

you should take a long walk off a short pier

reply

what about his role in The Lookout? beautifully textured.
I agree his role in Stop Loss was pretty stereotypical but that was the script, not his performance.

reply

Okay, at this point I think he's just being a dick or troll or something. Obviously saying Ryan Gosling can't act is just idiotic! He was nominated for an Oscar last year!

reply

Gosling is a good actor....and will be for a long time. But I think Levitt has the ability to become(even though he sort of already is)... an amazing actor. Problem is all of Levitt's films are independent, so very few have seen the films like Mysterious Skin and Brick and nearly all of his films. Then again, people might be uncomfortable watching a film like Mysterious Skin.

Emile Hirsch? HAHAHAHA, Go speed racer GO!
Hirsch is definitely a good actor, but with his agent and huge hollywood appeal now, if he keeps choosing crap like Speed Racer he won't really be showing any acting skills....?

Now that we talk about it, there are quite a few promising young actors, the future of film isn't looking to shabby.

LOL Shia Leblouf, he's funny though....why is it he gets the lead in Transformers? Damn Even Stevens........

he thinks he's a real actor because he IS.
this movie doesn't really show off his talent.
it's just the script and the material he was given.
if you (Thread starter) want to back up your argument without sounding like a child, go watch Mysterious Skin or Brick. then come back here with some insight. next time you won't embarrass yourself.

reply

He is one of the best actors out there.
Maybe watch some of his other films before you start saying crap about him!
Watch Mysterious Skin and Manic and then come back here and back your post up.
You cant base his acting on Stop-Loss.
You twit!

Say it aint so.. I will not go.. Turn the lights off.. Carry me home..

reply

He was seriously scary in Stop-Loss. I found myself more drawn to him than Ryan Philippe even though his was the lead because I wanted to see if he would go over the edge.

reply

He was even more scary in Manic.
But, imo, it made him even more sexier.

You've got to see the Lookout.

Brick has stayed on my top ten list for a couple of years now...I can't wait to see what he does next. I rented Stop Loss solely because he was in it--I usually avoid war movies. I didn't even check to see who else was in it first, but it was an excellent cast.

Scary is sexy.

I really think JGL is a great actor and Ryan Gosling too,

Shia Lafluff or whatever his name is.

That would be Shia Labeouf, who is a phenomenal actor and has made some very poignant movies aside from his main stream action flicks, so please dont go there. Check out A guide to recognizing your saints ( alongside Channing Tatum actually) and The Battle Of Shaker Heights( Project Greenlight winner) and the upcoming New York I Love you.

so whats ur point? tom cruise has been nominated for 3 oscars and he's one of the worst actors of all time. using the oscar nomination card is a horrible argument to make. gosling is just OK, he has a few good performances under his belt, and alot of overacting under his belt. but as for levitt i have to agree with the original poster that he sucks. and yes i've seen the lookout, brick, and 10 things i hate about you. he is terrible, and he was painful to watch in this film.

Opinions are like ass-holes and yours is also full of sh*t! "Born on the 4th of July", "Rain Man", "A Few Good Men", "The Last Samuari", those were all outstanding performances by Tom Cruise (whether you liked the movies or not). Just because he's a world class movie star who's been in a few horrible movies later in his career (Mission Impossible 2; Eyes Wide Shut; etc) and a first class nutjob now that he's all scientologied out, doesn't mean he's a bad actor. Only a douchebag that obviously knows nothing about acting would say that he's one of the worst actors of all time. Keanu Reeves, Tobey McGuire, Josh Hartnett, and Vin Diesel are all horrible actors yes! They couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. Tom Cruise has never had a "bad" performance. His worst performance that I can think of was in "Far and Away" and only because he couldn't quite pull off the accent. But even that wasn't really a bad performance. Tom Cruise, Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are all great actors.

reply

Totally disagree. He was very believable in the film and gave a great performance.

reply

JGL is one of the most underrated actors out there!! I would put him on the same level as Heath Ledger, except Heath died so early and we weren't able to see what he's fully capable of. I liked Heath a little better but they are both interesting actors (not to mention that they look alike). He can definitely act and I actually think he's better than Gosling, LaBouf or Franco.

reply

Man, I completely forgot JGL was in this film---add that to the list of films I've seen him in in which he was good as usual. Check his directorial debut, Don JON, and see what you think about it. I also think Gosling and LaBeouf are good actors too---there's a reason they have followings.

reply

He was by far the sexiest of the film as well lol. I would have picked him over Channning and Ryan!!

reply

Erm, because he can??

reply

Don't get your answer, AmmoChick. You seem to be saying Joe is just deluding himself. Hey, JG-L is one of the most interesting, talented young actors today. I just watched "Manic" yesterday and although I don't think it was a great film, he was great in it, and he was only 19 years old when it was filmed. His work in "Mysterious Skin" is up there with some of the best acting ever done by anyone. I'm not particularly fond of Joe's work in "Stop-Loss". He did a good job but the role didn't allow for much range. But this guy can act!

reply

Calm down, calm down.

I was just stating that we all have something that we are not super great at but we 'ourselves' think we are awesome at it..

Sarcasm is an everyday ingrediant..

I think he is underrated personally.

You be the sinner, I'll be your sin.

reply

Here's the deal. Sarcasm is a fine art, not easily transmitted in writing. In fact, when using short pithey phrases it is impossible to detect.

Clarity is a communication necessity.

I think it neglected personally.

reply

Joseph Gordon Levitt is my personal favorite. I've watched everything he has done in film and will continue to do so... He is amazing, underrated, and I predict he will have a couple of oscars on his shelf at the end of his career.
