It would've been better if Ben was at least black.

Not some random white guy. And I'm not being racist, cause' I'm white, ahaha.

I know, it's just something that was established in the beginning. It works better when Ben is a black guy, even if there's nothing at surface level to justify it. People always complain about all white casts, and then they take a movie and get rid of the only black character and replace him with another white guy.

True, but I'd rather have Ben to be black. It would've been even more of a homage to the original film.

I just wish he was rugged instead of a pretty boy.

what are you talking about it?

it is a remake, right? they go out of their way to call a major character Ben, and in the original it was a black character, so yeah, the "role is black" as you put it.

wanna have another random white character in the REMAKE? well, call him something else. its not like there is a shortage of names, only ideas...

there is no need for insults, i believe.

of course i understand there are no written rules. but this specific character's racial background is a part of a pretty damn significant point (although originally not intended). would you cast a white character named Medea in a remake? how about Malcolm X?

i am exaggerating of course, but that's the whole point. this was not just another character, but an integral, even central part of a film, which actually added quite a lot to the whole experience. it is just a great waste to simply pick up a name and no traits.

look - here Ben is actually first on the list of Top Black Characters in Science Fiction - http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2010/02/top-ten-african-american-characters-in-sci-fi/

i guess, i'm saying that although there are no specific rules, my brain advises me not to throw away great opportunities like that and put a little more effort into acknowledging the greatness of the original.

It's almost like they're pissing on the original by doing that. I agree.

Also Duane Jones and Tony Todd were FARRRR better actors than the bland guy they have playing Ben.

There's no need for Ben to be black or white.
In the original Ben was only black because the actor impressed bit because Romero was trying to make a statement, look it up and you'll find Romero saying that, so his colour means nothing and can be either or, or Chinese if it fits the film

It seemed to me like Ben was a different character type than he was in the original and 1990 version. In the previous versions he was like a leader because he took control and made most of the decisions. He had a more important role. Here he seemed like just another character out of many. So in other words it seemed like it was a completely different character who happened to be named Ben and wasn't like the real Ben at all. In my opinion since they completely changed the character's personality around they might as well change the race too.
