I'm a single male in my fourties with no kids of my own. I watched
this movie because I'm a fan of Scarlet Johansson. It was better
than I expected though I don't understand as to why Laura Linney's
character was named Mrs. X as opposed to having an actual name?
Nevertheless it was a decent, entertaining film.

I enjoyed it cuz I know lots of the type of people the movie's about. I grew up in that world, though I'm not in it now, so it's been entertaining to see what it was like from another's perspective. (This being the 2000-something version vs the 50s-60s-70s version I grew up in.)
Another movie I highly recommend on the lifestyles of the rich and famous, NYC edition, is The American Ruling Class. (My school principle is in it...)

I thought it was pretty good.

She was called Mrs. X for the same reason we don't learn the young man's name until the very end either. She is doing an anthropological study and trying to keep her objectivity and the confidentiality of her subjects. In a joking sense, for the sake of comedy. It also dehumanizes the witch a little, which is appropriate.
