For those who loved the BOOK ... The sequel will be here soon!

That's right! It's entitled NANNY RETURNS and according to Amazon.com, the book ships December 15th (You can pre-order now). I read an excerpt from the first chapter and I wanted to cry.

Quick plot summary: It's 12 years later. Nanny and H.H. are married (!) and Grace, the golden retriever puppy from The Nanny Diaries, is alive and well. One night, Nan opens up her door to a very drunk and very angry kid ... 16 year old Grayer who has come looking for her.

sooo excited for this! i am glad Nanny & H.H. are married. the first book was open-ended so you didn't know if they stayed together or not. can't wait!

I'm sorry to say, but Amazon's synopsis of the plot sounds awful. Even though not every question was answered in the first book, a sequel is unnecessary (in my opinion). I don't think there were that many mysteries left, and I like imagining how things ended up for everyone.

They call him HH Ryan in this book when in the movie his real name is Hayden. Odd. It's rather confusing.

mmm....padded walls....so soft...

It's not quite the fairytale ending. Setting up their life together wasn't easy and even being married, their relationship and problems are very real. I would love to see this book made into a sequel film with the same cast returning, with someone playing the older Grayer X though.

Is it worth my time?

If you liked the first book you will enjoy the second.

My favorite parts of the book were the beginning and the last chapters when we got to reconnect with Nan and her husband Ryan, H.H. It was great to see how their relationship ended up. I also liked Stilton, he was a character I really enjoyed and felt for.

I just finished the sequel last night, and it stinks. It has very little of the charm and laughs that made "The Nanny Diaries" so enjoyable in the first place -- it feels like the writers of the movie adaptation took over for the novel sequel because the characters are just so different. Yes, it's 12 years later and people change and evolve, but it was just not well done. Aside from not being necessary in the first place, the new book needlessly crammed in all sorts of extra plot twists and didn't resolve one of them satisfactorily. The sequel was a MAJOR disappointment.

I'm sorry, is this a press conference?

I read it and it was nice to see what happened to Nan, H.H. (who gets a name) and Grayer from where it was left off. I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on the sequel who've read it. I'd love to see a sequel movie to revisit the characters with the same adult cast, Scarlett, Chris, Laura and Paul.

For those who have read it, what did you think?

reply

I was so happy that H.H. got a name (As well as a LAST one and that we learn Nan's maiden name, too).

I'm probably one of the very few, but I don't think the film did the novel any justice. It was a cute movie, just not what I was expecting. Remakes and revamps seem to be the standard in Hollywood these days (Even when a film is just over 20 years old), so I'd love to see a re-working of "The Nanny Diaries" someday.

I agree there where parts from the book I wish were used in the film, if they let it span a "year" instead of a summer. But I would love to see the characters revisited. From the sequel I liked her relationship with H.H. as her husband, and thought that was the best, meatiest relationship I wish was fleshed out more. Nan's character wasn't as likeable in the sequel for me though. I did like her grandmother, parents and H.H., and little Stilton.

Is the movie a good enough representative of the first book that I could read the second book without reading the first and just the movie?
