Type of Nannies...

I watched this movie (without reading the novel), and I enjoyed it^^

But I never knew there were "types of nannies," such as:

A - One who's there when the parents work
B - Basically only there when called upon so the parents can "spend" time together
C - Always there for the mother who doesn't work at all (and lives with them)

I have a nanny, and she's a type A - so I'm just wondering for people who have nannies/ butlers, what type do you have? Just a curious question, that's all^^

reply

Type A here too.

Have to say though, what a judgemental group those nannies were, if they dont like their careers, they should choose another job. The sheer hatred from the "C" nannies, made me think they should look for another line of work.

It's not always easy to find a different job when you only have experience as a nanny.

I'm a type A with a bit of B, I work everyday while the parents are at work but there are some days where I'll come watch the child while the parent runs errands or does some chores. I've also come and watched the child while the parents spend time together or go out

Well when you are a C nanny (C nanny here) you become the mother figure and can become frustrated with parents who don't want to be parents. My nanny friends as well have become disillusioned with these kinds of parents. It's frustrating.

Fascinating to hear from some REAL nannies!!
Just wondering if you ladies are English based or Americans???

I'm a Canadian nanny, working in Canada.

reply

Yeah but the hatred is actually frustration at the parents and a sense of protection over the child. I both admire and sympathize with that.

I'm a stay-at-home mom with a hyperactive toddler (he has ADHD) and a newborn. I have two "B" nannies who come at different points in the day to help out with the toddler, who is really hard to watch while tending to a baby. One comes at breakfast and takes my 3 yr old to school and then the other one comes just before dinner time and feeds him his food (I cook his dinner--he's very picky and refuses to eat most things) while I make a different dinner for the adults and then bathes him. She leaves and I tuck him into bed. On Saturday nights and occasionally during the week we used to have the evening nanny watch the toddler while we went out to dinner. We haven't gone out since the new baby though.

Anyway-I think I'm a good example of a B nanny employer.

I was mostly an A nanny but sometimes the mom worked from home.

I quit being a nanny because I personally am against the principle of having nannies at all.

I'm a type A NYC nanny and I found myself laughing in understanding with this movie. There are simply some people out there who have kids for the sake of "having" kids and nothing more. It's disgusting.

My employers are fairly grounded and at least try to spend time with their kids, but they're more interested in making them perfect/educated (i.e. getting them to Harvard). They're totally incapable of discipline (frequently undermining the rules which they themselves ask me to enforce), and the mothers... whew. They scary.

I'm a type A nanny. It's not so bad. The family is great!

I'm what you call an "executive nanny!" I take care of a 52 year old man-child executive who cannot run a household by himself. He also cannot go grocery shopping, clean, cook, gas up his vehicles, or much of anything, except be a CEO of his own company! I'm actually surprised I don't tuck him in bed at night!
