Awful Meets Truly Awful

Anyone expecting an improvement over the Direction or the Writing, (talk about cheesy dialog)I didn't think it could get any worse than the tripe they shoveled at Patrick Stewart and Kimberly Williams in Safe House, will be sadly disappointed. With all the copycat mills dishing out the same rehashed storylines we've seen already, at what point did the premise for this film get beyond the flicker of a bad idea and actually go into production?

Oh boy, a wannabe critic. (Those who can't...teach. Those who can't teach...become critics.)
A fun, funny film, with good performances from the entire cast.
Not everything has to go into production with the pretense of being "Citizen Kane".
Sit back and enjoy the ride.

reply

I'd have to agree with Playful. The performances were okay but the dialog was really bad. I nearly fell asleep during the "ride". What was the pretense?

reply

This was a ride into hell. I couldn't even sit through it. I know both these two guys and I can tell you first hand, nothing they do is good. Their egos are larger than the Grand Canyon and their "talents" stink worse than month old fish. If you don't believe me, check out Final Approach. It was worse than Safe House. I'm not looking for "Citizen Kane", but I would like to be entertained.

It is very rarely the case that i cannot drag myself through a movie - but that has just been my experience with this one. What i did see before capitulating did not work on any level or in any capacity - despite the talent of the cast.
I am amazed at the kind of positive reviews expressed on this site to the point of being suspicious.

Interesting comment about Safe House. Which scored very high in key demos. I'll give the movie a chance. Since you haven't commented on other movies I have to assume you have an axe to grind with this one.
This film has been in the can since 2003 (might have been a little more timely back then) HBO finally bought the distribution rights - probably part of a package deal.

I'm surprised this movie got made! I worked with the director closely for several months trying to get it off the ground. I just came across this site and am proud of them for getting it off the ground! It's interesting to see who the cast is after knowing who they really wanted..

reply

And who exactly did they really want? I'd be curious to find out.

I'm thinking they probably wanted someone like Jessica Alba for the role of Audrey or maybe Antonio Sabato Jr. as Ciro. Am I far off?

reply

I was on the production crew in the beginning stages, long before it turned up on screen. (Pardon me if this reply sounds a little...bitter)

In the beginning names like Kevin Kline or William H. Macy were considered for the lead role. Madonna was a possibility as the mother. Unfortunately the casting process came right before the SAG strike hit. If I remember correctly the strike hit around June 2001.

Slowly the casting options were "downgraded" to Jeff Bridges and Melanie Griffith as the parents. Could you still watch the same movie if any of these actors were in it instead? You be the judge.

Was this movie robbed of the greatness it could have had? Probably. But don't expect any tea or sympathy from me...

reply

When this movie was made, since casting was in 2001?

reply

It was watchable until they didn't knew that they were being filmed . . . afterwards there're just extremely unfunny dialoges, cliched situations and nothing else but a very little nudity ( which if i had to watch i can, a lot more and for free too on internet thank you ).

If not in my bottom 5 then definetly in bottom 10.
