I actually liked this...

Didn't really expect to, rented it from Netflix because I thought the teaming of MVP and Cybill Shepherd seemed interesting. Sure, it's Pulp Fiction-lite 12 years after the fact, but Snipes and the awfully sexy Quinones kept me involved. I watched this after hearing the "new" Snipes news... I work for a year to earn what he earns for maybe a day or so on the set... what are these rich tax evaders thinking...?

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

I am a huge Wesley Snipes fan and i also thought this was a huge comeback from his last couple of films. I just wish there was a little more action. I would say 8/10. It's good.

I have to agree with you, this flick was better than I expected it to be. The Snipes/Van Peebles connection is always combo. And Jackie Quinones was some welcomed eye candy as well.

I picked this as a second choice, but as well I was impressed by this movie. A well written screenplay that I couldn't think about pausing. Plus Jackie was a good choice to accompany Snipes, hope to see more of her in future movies. Definatly worth watching.

I thought it was a poorly-conceived mess of a film that I would feel guilty recommending to anyone, unless they were seeing it for free. And even then I'd warn them about what a patchwork conglomeration of disparate, borrowed ideas it was. I sincerely doubt if this is the kind of disposable junk Wesley Snipes pictured himself doing at this point in his career.

I've seen the movie just yesterday and it was an interesting, funny and simply an entertaining flick with a light indie atmosphere. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't put off by seeing nudity or torture on the screen; you sure you've seen the same movie porfle? Yeah it may at times seem like Pulp Fiction, but what exactly are all those movies then, aren't they pretty much the same thing?

reply

I don't mind a movie being imitative as long as it does a good job of it. To me, HARD LUCK didn't.

Just providing a counterpoint to all the praise it seems to be getting here.

thats cool, but this really exceeded my expectations i picked it up cause of the wes and peebles reunion and was pleasantly suprised!i own alot of snipes and mario van flicks and think this showed some new range for wesley as an actor and peebles as a director/writer,didnt see this one coming, cheers mate....

as alwayz this is just my humble opinion and u r entitled 2 yourz

reply

Yeah, very good movie, I agree!

i enjoyed this movie, i thought it was very good compared to wesley's last few movies, im glad theres some people that like this film, i think i might cause an argument soon on the 'weird' subject on the message board for this film, i basically told them there was a lot worse films made than this one, so you can't say this was a mess of a film :D

Great bit of fun. Loved it.

I REALLY didn't like this film much at all, mainly cause it was so goodamn boring for the most part, and the whole serial killer subplot flet very out of place in the film, and the fact that the serial killers themselves weren't the least bit intimidating didn't help matters(plus what the hell did tohse helmet things they used on they're victims do anyways? I was pretty confused on that), it pains me to hate this film so much since I like Van Peebles as a director and actor, but I felt his previous film, the little known cop thriller Gang In Blue was a far superior film to this one in every single way. And Wesley Snipes other DTV films- Unstoppable, The Marksman, 7 seconds and The Detonator were alot more fun then this was. I hope Peebles puts more thought into his next film.
