^Agreed....so is Child's Play. To me a "slasher" is a demented, psycho killer that is very much human (or close to human...like Jason).
The film I'M surprised they left out is Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)! If there ever was a breast feeding of the slasher genre, TCM did its part! It wasn't even MENTIONED!!!
Chainsaw is not a slasher pic its a grindhouse shock picture just because leatherface wore a mask does not make it a slasher film there are basic rules that make a slasher film and TCM follows none of them
I agree that Texas Chainsaw Massacre isn't a slasher flick, but I think it definitely had influence to later slasher films- and not just Leatherface wearing a mask.
Hey, this guy's not gonna leak all over my ice cream, is he?
According to the fair use doctrine, they can show parts of any film if it's for educational purposes. Since the documentary aims to educate the viewer about the history of slasher films, it would be allowed.
I wouldn't necessarily call TCM a slasher film, but it had way more of an influence on the genre than The Last House on the Left, which I definitely wouldn't call a slasher. What's strange is they left the original TCM out but included several clips from the remake.
I see the problem here. There's a baby in your body!
Yeah. I was thinking the same thing. I was pretty upset about that. They left out "Child's Play" and it's one of the MAIN slasher movies of the 80's. Plus, just like boogeymen slashers like Freddy, Michael, Jason, Chucky is recognizable as very scary and dangerous.
Puppet Master and The Stepfather are missing too. I don't know if they really fit the mold, but like April Fools Day, the marketing for them makes you think slasher. Another one not in, although more recent, is Make a Wish.
I'm going to shove coal so far up your stocking you'll be coughing up diamonds!
Well they could not include EVERY "slasher" film ever, of the running time would be hours. Besides, they are talking about "slasher" films that shaped and moulded the horror genre. Neihter Child's Play nor Candyman did this, they just jumped on the bandwagon.
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he is God.
If you listen to the film-makers commentary, they tell you that they couldn't get right to certain films. Whether Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Child Play are amongst these films, I don't know.
