Episode one is a cruel joke to be your last movie

what a crap movie to have to watch as your last movie.

reply

I've always wondered why they never really touch upon the fact that Episode 1 sucks ass and that he died after watching the first movie of a trilogy that pretty muched ruined Star Wars.

reply

they do.... the last line of the movie literally is "what if this movie sucks?" implying that it will suck and its ironic given their quest

If i go crazy will you still call me Superman?

Also Linus said "You have to keep the crappy effects, real puppets. That's what make it interesting." He wasn't directly speaking of Episode I, but it was heavily implied.

I think his overall view was: "yeah, the film's not as good, but I'm still happy as I was privileged to see it."

Is it really that terrible? I have not seen them, but according to this board, they seem awful. Do most people feel that way? Is it the die-hard Stars Wars fans that hate it b/c it's not true to the original, or are the movies just bad themselves??

The prequels aren't all bad, in fact, the third one is a very good film. But as a whole, they're definitely inferior to the original trilogy. I think the problem is that pre-1999, Star Wars was the stuff of sacred childhood memories, and only a perfect prequel trilogy would have lived up to the hype. The truth is that a perfect movie does not exist.

...die-hard Stars Wars fans that hate it (prequel trilogy)...

- typically it's fans of the OT who were hoping for solid continuity with the OT and a better overall film series that has a strong central character like Luke Skywalker, and that follows the Hero's Journey in a similar way as the OT did.

Anakin would have been the obvious choice since the prequel is supposed to reveal what was discussed in the OT, but it really doesn't establish Anakin as a great and honored Jedi, it fails to show him believably fall in love with Padme, and his descent into darkness makes little sense.

More than merely:
...pre-1999, Star Wars was the stuff of sacred childhood memories...

many found themselves rooting for him to go bad, rather than telling the promised, great Shakespearean backstory of a fallen hero denied love and turned from light to darkness who we would feel profoundly sorry for.

Instead, we wound up with the cliched, amusing and laughable "NOOOOOOO!":

...only a perfect prequel trilogy would have lived up to the hype.

- Not true. If GL had simply shown a strong backstory established in the OT of how Anakin rose to be a great Jedi master, fell in love, and descended into darkness to become Darth Vader, we would have had an even better SW than we have now.

CinemaSins and Red Letter Media explain articulately, more concisely, and with humor, why many people (including many younger people who weren't actually there when the OT came out) prefer the OT and consider the prequel to be inferior.

Also, the SFX and other story changes to the OT suck. Funny that the changes weren't mentioned in Fanboys.

they are convoluted. Too much crap all at once, Both on screen and on the plot. Lucas had like this spider web plot for a movie that was supposed to be "For Kids"

Also, he took beloved characters from the originals and created really crappy beginning storylines and he took what made them epic away.

The effects were cool and the creatures were okay, But one thing that made the originals so amazing was the simplicity of the story. Anyone in the world can follow the story of the originals.

the new ones, It's like you need to take a college course on star wars to understand wtf is going on

Come to think of it, I don't remember them saying this was his last movie. He may have seen several more before he actually died.

I really wish he talked to At LEAST ONE of the guys about the movie in detail.
Without giving them spoilers or anything, I Wish the movie gave him more lines about what he thought.

Also, maybe as he was watching the movie he finally grew up like the other guy did. He was a child at heart and he liked childish things.
But seeing how Awful the movie was made him understand how it wasn't about an obsession with Star Wars but it really was about the connections he made with those guys, the good times they had,
