Do electric car owners secretly want to see gas prices rise?

Human nature being what it is.

People like to see their own choices justified, so I suppose so.

However, the true effect of large scale electric car adoption would have to be falling gas prices - petroleum companies would be forced to keep prices down to keep as many drivers from switching as possible.

Two things come to mind:
1. Higher gas prices won't fix all of our problems, but it is quite clear that cheap gas prices have gotten us into a whole lot of trouble.
2. I'm curious as to why you don't think this "forced to keep prices down" issue hasn't already begun? The oil producing countries have us by the short hairs and can dictate just about anything to us. They're constantly having to balance consumption with price pain. The US depends on them for our current "quality of life". Seriously, our civilization is based on cheap fuel. And now it depends on it. Comforting though, yeah?

As an EV driver I just want to see the true cost of gas reflected at the pump. That would include the cost of military protection for our oil resources (and "softening" of future oil sources), cost of healthcare for air-quality related illness, and cost of environmental mitigation. Were that to come about, gas would cost somewhere between $10 and $15/gal. In Europe the true cost IS reflected at the pump, and that's why they demand (and receive) cars that get 70mpg.
