Really Dumb - power windows

My brother was over with his Prius and I had to check something. Yep, just like I thought, it has power windows. There is no way to open the windows without power (he also said something about not being able to open the doors without electric power, sheesh!). And I BET that this is the way it is on all these new electric cars, such as the new Nissan Leaf which I am really interested in. The idiot designers just HAD to use power windows (now that that is so common in cars - note to those who may be wondering, YES, I still drive cars with windows that you crank up and down by hand!). WHY WHY would they DO something so STUPID as FORCING people in these new electric cars to use up their battery's power to open and close the windows? Duh! Anybody thinking of buying an electric car should think again, just based on the fact that they would do something as retarded as that!

I don't get it. You're saying the windows should use manual handles? That doesn't make much sense. If you have a huge electric battery, why wouldn't you use power windows?

reply

It makes perfect sense. You need a way to operate the windows in the event that the power is not available for whatever reason.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

I'm inclined to agree that power windows aren't a necessary requirement, but how many cars with a decent spec list today come with manual windows as an option? Besides, how much time can you spend on opening and closing windows? I rarely need to.. the power drain is minimal using them,it's not going to give an EV owner range anxiety..Aircon would be more of an issue for Me!

If Book was in Intelligence B4 finding God,does that mean He's a Shepherd Spy? (Thank You,Spike..)

1) The energy to operate windows is negligible for an electric car.

2) An electric car is not meant to be run "dry", as it damages most batteries types.
And if it does there is a cut-off that most likely leaves enough juice for the small stuff.

3) I very highly doubt that safety laws would allow doors that don't operate without power.

Frankly, there are much more important things to consider about an electric car.

Like the battery life expectancy, and behavior in cold/hot.
