How come this movie got no publicity?

I seriously haven't heard about this movie anywhere at all!!

the only reason why I knew it even exsisted was of jared leto's imdb profile.

does anyone know why? or if you can even rent it or anything?

reply

I think you can only rent it from blockbuster, and probably netflix.

reply

coz its an indie movie

reply

Wow, your an idiot spamsterella. Mark Chapman had killed John Lennon but you make baby jesus cry.

reply

And calling Jared Leto a talentless SOB shows how much more of an idiot you are.

"Don't you blame the movies, movies don't create psychos, movies make psychos more creative!"

reply

the goal of the Chapman was to get famous by killing Lennon. My guess, Yoko, Paul and various others used their influence to make sure the word would not get out about this film.

reply

You're probably exactly right that certain people did all all they could to make sure word did not get out about this film. I wasn't sure about it at first, when I saw it... but Jared Leto's performance in this film was FANTASTIC, to say the least. His performance made this one worth it.

reply

I thought Jared Leto did AMAZING also! He shocked me as an actor, I didn't know he had it in him.

"You Say im crazy? Well I got your crazy!"

reply

you didn't know he had it in him, did you see Requiem for a Dream?

reply

He was very good in Chapter 27 but he was INCREDIBLE in Requiem for a Dream. That, and Trainspotting, are the best drug movies ever made, hands down. To call Leto a talentless SOB is ignorant, or just plain stupid.

reply

just herad about this movie on seth macfalenes cavalcade of cartoon

I think you must be talking about yourself. Obviously you haven't watched his movies. His performance in Chapter 27 is what made the film worth watching. It was completely out of Jareds comfort zone and he was fantastic. Critics thought so too! He's a great actor and musician.

It did have publicity, but no where near a summer blockbuster.
It's not a typical "pick me up" film, which people go to the movies to watch, be entertainted and chat about what they have just seen afterwards. It would doesn't appeal to the masses. So targeted towards the more niche film market.

reply

It got no publicity because it was a dreadful movie! It was cheap and tacky, to say the very least, which is why is wasn't screened in the cinemas (at least not where I live) and isn't easily available on DVD. And I would say that a John Lennon movie would USUALLY appeal to the masses, and movies that "tug at the heartstrings" tend to be popular because they're supposed to be "deep", but Chapter 27 is just crap, hence no one wants to see it, and no publicity.

Actually it did get some publicity, but mostly for the fact that the man playing John Lennon was named Mark Chapman.

reply

A lot of people didn't want this movie to be done but not Yoko Ono. She met the a part of the cast and gave her benediction to this movie.

reply

me too and i'm surprised. cause it's very serious movie. and as always jared is great. i have no words.

Funny how a lot of liberal Lennon fans would howl in protest if any movie they liked would be censored. Imagine their uproar if a Michael Moore film were censored. But when it comes to their darling John Lennon it's sacrilege to make a movie about his murderer?

I in no way condone what Chapman did but let's face it. It's been 30 years. Chapman isn't exactly a Charles Manson-like figure who people worship. I think it's generally accepted that Chapman was severely mentally ill and did this to gain attention. He received some attention at the time and continues to receive attention when he is up for parole.

Let's look at other movies that have been made about tragedies though. Zodiac was made into an excellent film. The murderer killed five people although he could have killed up to 37 people. None of his victims apparently were as important as John Lennon because there wasn't any resistance to 'Zodiac' being made.

Movies about Charles Manson have been made without much hoopla as well.
In fact CBS adapted the book 'Helter Skelter' in 2004 and aired it on broadcast TV.

There has even been a Jeffrey Dahlmer film. Dahlmer killed mostly young boys/men and ate many of his victims.

None of these movies are exceptionally good except for 'Zodiac'. I don't think that matters. I believe you can't censor something when it's a 'sacred cow' to you because it may not be to others. People with strong convictions will allow even for media they are opposed to be published.

The screaming Lennon fans just make me laugh. There are hundreds of holocaust movies but apparently that's nothing compared to making a movie about John Lennon, a musician.

I haven't yet seen the movie but I probably will soon. If you're a fan of John Lennon nothing will change the music he left behind. If you don't like this movie then ignore it. It wasn't a big hit anyway.

reply

no real lennon fan approve censorship. chapman was a regular cia agent working allover the world pretending to help Vietnami children. zodiac made controversy because the killer specifically asked for a movie to be made about her or him. no holocaust movie consentrate on nazis instead of the alleged victems. you have no common sense like a woman or a red nick.
