A talking Werwolf?

It sounds strange to me, I dont like the idea of a "thinking" werewolf like in cursed when the werewolf was smart and had a motive/talked like when it gave the finger and said "LIAR". I just really didnt like this but I guess well see how this turns out.

They say, "Evil prevails when good men fail to act." What they ought to say is, "Evil prevails."

I didn't hear about this, but I'm all open for it. It'd be cool if he did talk, only if he displayed a dark, deadly sense of humor or something like that but he could do that through body motions. I read that the human character who turns into the werewolf is an alcoholic so that could add something interesting to the beast.

reply

Yeah the talking werewolf was stupid and especially that he spoke in teen lingo and slang.

Having the werewolf talk takes away the scare factor and removes some of the wild, animal nature of the creature. The rape scenes were totally unnecessary and seemed to be tossed in for a joke, maybe for the young boys watching...

If it a intellegent werewolf that is controlled by animal instinct, I can buy it.

Yeah know, if u think about it, the werewolves in Dog Soldiers were somewhat intelligent. Think about it.

reply

Well, I like the idea of a werewolf being more than a senseless animal, simply killing because it's in his animalistic nature... Of course, this takes it yet another step further.

I'm quite anxious to see it.

reply

I like it being slightely intelligent (i.e dog soldiers), but talking just seems to far.

See this as a diferent aproach to the werewolf beast genre!
See it like its a human possessed by an enormous power(strength) and hunger for all primal:
*Blood
*Sex
*Chewing bones (lol)

He talks yes....a lot more then you could expect

Im a huge werewolf myth fan...and when i first saw the trailer and heard him talk i tought *omifgod.....this is just stupid*
And hated it..
Then i came across the movie..and decided to watch it anyway...hoping nothing but lame B attempts

Well turned out to be a VERY funny movie, its an horror/comedy
I didnt saw it like a werewolf fan that i am but, rather like a primal beast of some sort..and guess what? Worked like a charm
Had a lot of fun watching this movie

Gave it 6/10
Cheers =)

It was also a werewolf that didn't need a full moon to change. I had a lot of fun watching this movie also it didn't seem like a waste of time at all.

The idea of a talking werewolf seems stupid at first (like Romero's ever-increasing, idiotic love for intelligent zombies that's ruining anything he makes anymore), but they actually pulled it off here. Whatever you might say about this film, good or bad, the werewolf's dialogue was just priceless, and perfectly evil and witty. "Little pigs, little pigs, come out, come out... so I can rip your guts out!" LOL

well it was a horror/comedy so you werent supposed to be horrfied beyond belief, there was alot of sarcasm and camp put into the film that makes it different than alot of other horrors that are out there. Glad you saw it though.

My friend and I did enjoy it (watched it today). The only other talking werewolf I can think of in the movies is Matt Willis as Andreas Obry in "Return of the Vampire"... the scenes of him conversing with Bela lugosi in the graveyard have a weird sort of fairytale quality to me.
I kept thinking Trevor Duke looks a lot to me like Berwick Kaler, who got his start in Andy Milligan movies in the late 60s (yes, I'm an Andy Milligan fan.
Really liked the actresss who pkayed Sam too.

As a kid, my first exposure to werewolves in movies was "Teen Wolf" starring Michael J. Fox. I actually always preferred that type of werewolf to, say, the "Blood and Chocolate" kind, where they're either fully human or fully wolf.

I guess you could say that I've always preferred lycanthropy as a metaphor for puberty ("Teen Wolf", "Ginger Snaps"), aggression/rage ("Skinwalkers"), or lust ("Big Bad Wolf") rather than as a magical transformation (a la "Blood and Chocolate").

The werewolves in the howling also showed a sense of intellect beyond just a savage animal.

I just saw it. It was okay. It seemed really cool til the werewolf started talking. That just killed it for me. I guess I'm old fashioned. I wasn't thrilled about seeing that part on Cursed either. I am all for smart werewolves. But talking ones........ It just didn't seem right to me, but that's just my opinion. But then again, I still have always loved Teen-Wolf, lol.

reply

a TALKING werewolf didn't seem right to you?....why would a werewolf in general seem right to you?

since the concept of a werewolf is SO farfetched anyways.......why wouldn't they be able to talk without people saying "OH EM GEE....a TALKING werewolves? werewolves can't talk!".......

do you now understand the ridiculousness of such statements?

this movie was hilarious.....only classifed as horror because of all the bad gore....if you can get past all your close-minded-ness about the genre you'll see that a talking werewolf was were most of the humor was in, if he didn't speak...it would have been another horrible unoriginal cheap movie. come on, did you see the costume? lol I almost stopped watching it until he spoke...

i mean the things he said was ridiculous....the first thing he said was that little chant about the three little piggys. way to make a first impression...i wasn't even aware he was suppose to speak.....i just about laughed my ass off.

it was funny...and a lot better than i would have thought....the script was actually good compared to other movies of this budget....

i thought the idea of the werewolf talking is a fresh idea that worked atleast for this film, it made him that much more scarier/sadistic because he is showing that he has a human conscious but is still killing not because of his animal nature but because he enjoys it, you know this from him talking.

reply

Would you rather have a dumb lumbering werewolf with no personality chasing after bad no-name actors? Honestly, this movie was pretty damn good for what it was. And werewolves are half human, half wolf....therefore they can have human intelligence.....

When I heard that this movie had a talking werewolf, I just laughed. But honestly, it turned out fine, and I like it. Talking werewolf isn't a bad idea if pulled off appropriately.

However, to question some comments here, why can't a werewolf demonstrate intelligence? Animals are driven by instincts but they also possess enough intelligence to hunt for their prey in best of ways. Now a werewolf is part human, so coupling that with animal instincts, I guess most werewolves should be intelligent: unless the human turning into one is a total dummy.

It's actually better than it sounds in the film. It's kinda part of it's charm.
