AOE4?

Anyone know if they're working on a new game?? If so, any details?

See Brett Ratner. He'll be directing it.

Don't listen to me.

ES have several projects at the moment. After AOE3's X-pack is launched, they're probably going to release a massive online multiplayer RPG. They won't stop making RTS games but it won't be their next project. I hope AOE4 will be a remake of the original AOE. I'd also be happy if they made AOM2.

I would much rather see another Age of Empires 2 than the first age of empires as its timeline is not really too relevent these days and there are quite a few games for the AOE and AOM period.
By the way I heard that ensemble won't be making another AOE title for some time and they are currently working on another RTS called "Halo Wars".

LOL... Age of Empire's timeline isn't relevant these days? And yet in 1997 it was relevant? Explain.

Looks like this will never be realized as Ensemble Studios is folding. Too many ppl are pirating PC video games so MS is shifting more to 360...

Ensemble Studios has collapsed, but this is probably not the end of the Age of Empires franchise as it will almost certainly be picked up by Microsoft Gaming Studios.

Big question is where to go now? Will it be a return to the game's roots, with a 3D version of the original AOE? Will they head for a Rise of Nations/Empire Earth type game which covers the breadth of history?

AOE III ended around 1870, so the next game will probably pick up from there - perhaps with a game that covers events from the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71) up until the modern day. It would be interesting to see the franchise's take on the Boer War, the Boxer Rebellion, The First World War, The Chinese Civil War, Spanish Civil War, Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq-Iran conflict, Israel's Wars etc.
