Problem with this movie...

*POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE "OLDBOY"*

After viewing the film plot info at www.zindathefilm.com I have noticed a problem with giving Zinda the Oldboy ending. According to that site, the main character's wife is pregnant when he gets abducted and locked away. Then, after fourteen years he is released and has four days to get revenge. Do you follow? Unless, this guy is going to hook up with a fourteen year old, it cannot have the same ending as Oldboy. Or maybe the plot info on their website is incorrect. I don't know.

after seeing this film, the ending came as rather lame, lara dutta is useless, he sleeps with her but she is unrelated to him, his daughter of 14 is about to be sold as a protitute or something, thats the ending

reply

Wow...

That sucks! So there is no big twist to the story at all?

reply

Rohonnag...

Please elaborate on ending; so how is John Abraham related and why does he imprison Sanjay Dutt??

If Lara is not daughter, then Sanjay Gupta really needs to go back to school; cause the 14 years imprisonment does not make sense!

Please post here, because I am not going to see Zinda. Include Spoiler if you must. Thank you.

Spoiler

Here is the story... Balajit Roy, a software engineer, is called to bangkok with
a promise to riches if he perfects a software...Just as his wife(Celina Jaitley)runs to tell him the news that she is pregnant, he disappears and finds himself in a room...Celina is killed when he is locked up... He gets locked there for 14 years and then freed... He has 4 days to find out y this happened to him..Lara Dutta is a cab driver who helps him find John and also sleeps with him... Actually the flashback shows that John Abraham's older sister was in Sanjay Dutt's class and he degraded the girl to such an extent that she committed suicide..So John takes revenge on him...Ending could have been better... John dies saying his(Dutt's) daughter is being sold off and Dutt can do nothing abt it... A dejected Dutt then gets a phone call from his daughter that she is alive and safe at their house...The ending ruined it for me...But good all-round acting

P.S...I heard its a total rip-off of Oldboy...Was the ending same thr????

the ending is different in oldboy. if they had copied it entirely then john would have had a incestous relationship with her sister. sanjay accidentally catches them in the act and unwittingly spreads the rumour abt their relationship. john then captures him for 15 years and releases him for 5 days. during this period he has sex with lara which later turns out to be her daughter. thus john gets his revenge and then commits suicide.

"He gets locked there for 14 years and then freed"

But why 14 years? Is there a significance to 14 years? It would make more sense if the main character escaped after 14 years, but the fact that he was freed begs the question concerning the significance of 14 years. What, is there some Thailand law stating that a girl cannot be sold as a prositute until she is 14?

"What, is there some Thailand law stating that a girl cannot be sold as a prositute until she is 14?"

I can't tell if that was a humorous injecture or not, but I laughed anyway (Thailand = underage prostitute kingdom is a pretty long-running joke). ^^

It's 14 years because in Oldboy it was 14 years (yes, I know the film says 15 years, but Koreans count years by calendar. (So for example, if Oh Dae Su was kidnapped in November 2000 and was released on April 2005, he would have spent his time in that prison during the years of 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005, so he would have spent 6 years or 5 years "Mahn") It's either 15 years or 14 years "Mahn" in Korean language). Or maybe Gupta didn't know about this and thought "Hey, I can probably push this as original film if I tweak the numbers a bit." Hence 14 years & 4 days (as opposed to Oldboy's 15 years & 5 days).

That sounds really lame... I guess it takes special talent to take a plot like 'Oldboy' and ruin it such an extent..

Ending in Oldboy is quite different. But it seems first 3/4 is along the same line.

If you haven't seen Oldboy go rush and see it. If you find out the story before watching it takes away half the fun.

The problem with is movie is that his daughter was freed unexpectedly after Rohit Chopra died without any explanation whatsoever in the final three minutes of the film.I thought that Rohit Chopra's mission in life is to inflict immense pain to Bala due to what happened to his sister? So it looks like that John Abraham's character,Rohit,is just making a fool of Bala and the viewers when he said that her daughter is about to be sold as a prostitute. What a crappy movie.Zinda made a fool of the viewers. So there goes the happy ending. Bala, together with the useless Lara Dutta role,Jenny Singh,re-unites with his daughter and lives happily ever after.

I agree that Lara Dutta's role is USELESS.She was just there to exist as a leading lady for the necessary scenes to remain faithful to the Korean masterpiece,Oldboy like for Bala to escape the tooth torture;the apartment owner receiving money from Rohit;discovery that Bala is bugged;discovery the reason of Bala's imprisonment for 14 years;and a lot more scenes.

Also, the sex scenes were useless considering that the movie never explained why Bala and Jenny got attracted to each other.Their relationship just existed without any explanations whatsoever. LOL

That is why Zinda is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It deserves a 1 out of 10 rating.

That is exactly what Gupta did.He tweaked some details to like the number of years Bala was imprisoned and the number of days he was freed to make is an original film.
