Wonderful movie!

Hello dear movie fans,

if you will excuse me, I try to write in English as I wish that not only german talking people are able to understand and hopefully also people from abroad will hear about this movie.

Sorry for my very bad English, I keep trying. :)

This movie is really a milestone for current german movies. The plot is exciting and stirring, all the actors act absolutely natural, they are great, everyone of them including all supporting actors. The story has nothing to do with voyerism, the movie is made so sensitive and gentle it nearly hurts.

Maren Kroymann and Kostja Ullmann are marvellous, they are both gorgeous, Kostja is such a beauty, he is adorable.

Thank you Angelina Maccarone for this wonderful movie.

I was really shocked when I saw the embarassing Poster (using a faked photography!!!)which is shown on this page - "Punish me"! Disappointing to see that one of our (Germany's) most notable and exceptional movies in 2006 is advertised in such a poor way.

To everybody: This movie is NOT an erotic S/M-Film but a quiet and minimalistic drama. And don't be frightened by the low budget- the film looks fantastic and extremely professional.

I hope that "Verfolgt" will become more popular in the future, also here in Germany where it was shown only at a few little cinemas.

Wir brauchen mehr Filme wie "Verfolgt". Schande über die deutsche Filmförderung...

how does the boy get punished

reply

Elsa beats him with her hands and a belt. There is some more action indicated but not shown. Believe me, it isn't important how he gets punished. I have to repeat myself: This is NOT a SM-Film.

reply

well, just how much do they show?

reply

Almost nothing;-) It was rated 16 here in Germany which could be compared - in this case - to a PG 13 rating in the USA.

reply

There is no way THIS film would receive a 'PG-13' rating in the States. Americans are extremely uptight about sexuality in film, especially when it involves the controversial subjects present here. An erotic scene does not have to be graphic to be disturbing or offensive. Im not one of these people, but so many Americans, used to mainstream Hollywood garbage, will unfortunately be shocked by this beautiful and fascinating film. I would not be surprised if the 'NC-17' rating was given. That is how ignorant people are here.

Hi,

I'm American and love this film.I'm a fan of foreign films and some of the best
from recent years have been from Germany:Before the Fall(NaPoLA),Downfall and now this film.

It is a shame about the misleading dvd cover but i've come to accept this over the years.

Hopefully anyone who rents or purchases this film on dvd will see it for the masterpiece it is.

Yes, it is regrettable that this film has to be soiled with the title "Punish Me" in its American DVD release. I know that Picture This took the title from one line in the movie, but it gives a misleading impression about the nature of the film.

The German word "verfolgt" means "pursued" or "persecuted." The international English title for the film was "Hounded." The distributors should have stayed with that.

In fact, an interesting aspect of watching the movie is trying to ascertain which of the main characters is really being "hounded."

Overall, it's a good movie with a very difficult subject to tackle. I give my compliments to everyone involved. They could have very easily looked ridiculous, but I think that they handled it perfectly.

I completely agree with you, Mongkut.

Although certainly sexy (how could one show the gorgeous Kostja Ullmann without any clothes and not be?) the film is far from being exploitative. It explores its subject interestingly and eloquently as very few films have done. You are right, this is a milestone for current German cinema.

Since you are German, perhaps you could say a few words about the meaning of Verfolgt.

At first I interpreted it to mean followed through, as in Elsa the juvenile parole officer "following through" with the boy.

Then someone said it really means Haunted, as by a ghost.
