I was just thinking about the last conversation Daniel had with Beth and wonder if he wished he could've handled things differently. Knowing that was the last conversation they had, I'm guessing so. She was the other of his child and it was obvious she dedicated her life to her son.

I think that you meant David, who was her ex. Daniel was the boyfriend who worked as the security guard at the Union Building, where Beth had been working before getting fired.
I doubt that David would have handled things differently, in fact, he was the one who had then pointed out to her that her "doing it by herself" attitude was ruining her life and would have started to their son's at that point in time. David had been reaching a breaking point with her, informing her that he'd already contacted a lawyer about getting custody of Benjy. If anything, handling things differently might have amounted to telling her that it was now unfeasible that she, without any job or money in the bank, could continue trying to be a mother to a crippled child. He might have just taken the child right then and there and not let her try to drive home with him.
