Explain the ending please (* SPOILER *)
To whom was Roland speaking (on the telephone) at the end of the film? Was Roland working for someone else all along?
shareHey, at first I brushed off this ending not thinking too much into it. But, after I got thinking a little a very dark theory came to me...
What if his first wife never was a spy, what if Roland always was the spy for his competitor, and just clearly mastermind the blame on his ex-wife to put him into depression so that he would lose out to his employer. I thought of this because Roland says to the man on the phone something along the lines of "here we go again," or "were good to go." As in, we can sabotage the competition once more like we did in the past. A clue is that Lucas' company is number 2 in the country, and he's now working on a project with the Chinese that could put him ahead. Getting him to go in depression will cause another fatal blow to the company as before.
If so, this was just a really unnecessary cruel plot twist from the writer.
