Queen Latifah, Narrator?????

Can't they get someone with a bit of class... like Morgan Freeman.

I agree. My first impression when hearing her voice is that it didn't suit the movie. Heard her voice again after the announcer and confirmed that she doesn't suit the narrator role.

Yeah, I heard queen latifa's voice came after the movie announcer's and I thought, "what the hell were they thinking?!"
She sounds just way too... umm... ok, I won't say it, but you know what I mean

~I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong~

Queen Latifah does have class. She has a nice voice.

Queen Latifah narrates it? Now I have to see it. Love her, and her voice.

Well, I thought she did a good job, besides, the animal protagonists we're following on this film are all female anyways.

Just saw the movie, and now I think I have to go to Pizza Hut.

Seriously, I think Q.L. was a very poor choice for narrating this film. I still believe that narrators should be able to speak basic English (American, Canadian, Island, etc...) not the mumbled rubbish that passes for street in Latifa's world... WOW I sound like a biggot... OK, I'll rephrase that because I am not in any way a biggot: If you want to drop the last letter or two off your words, go learn French, in the English language we have set rules for which letters are pronounced and which ones are not. If your JOB is to convey ideas in English I think you should be able to speak it the way it is understood worldwide. With that said, I am by no means an English scholar or fanatic, I do however hate to go see a movie or TV show in which the narrator is difficult to understand as Latifa is in this movie. The timbre and pitch of her voice us unattractive, and her attempts to sound cute at times fall flat. The read is borring and innefectual. I've been very disappointed in the recent trend to use major actors as narrators, some are great like the afformentioned J.E.J. or M.F. but Q.L. is not good at all. The reasons that the older documentaries and cartoons were so good (Warner brothers for example) is that they used professional voice actors to narrate or character. While you may like Latifa as an actress (I don't but I gave her the benefit of the doubt when I went into this movie) that is fine, but she is by no means whatsoever a good speaker.

I would've watched it had the narrator not been Queen latifah. Primarily it should only be the story that matters but in the case of such a documentary, the one who is telling the story becomes the most important thing. And if that person is Queen latifah, with her phony, "i'm from the hood" baggage, then screw this nonsense.

reply

heheh, i just saw the trailer and her voice is indeed very annoying. It made me not want to see this film. To sit through 90 minutes of her voice.. ugh.

She sounds like a robot. Morgan Freeman probably costs too much to hire, plus he already did Penguins. They could've gotten Richard Dreyfus for this. He does PBS's American Experience narration and some other things. He has a nice voice suited for documentaries. Or David McCullough.

reply

Am waiting for the UK version to come out, cause it will probably have another narrator.

reply

I thought her voice sounded ok. It is female "stars" that we are following, as someone previous mentioned, so female voice more fitting. To the person who said Morgan Freeman should do it, I think he has done enough narration, nice to have a bit of variety !

reply

they should've gotten someone like Snoop Dogg to narrate. that's what i think.

reply

I know its an American production but nothing beats documentary commentary more than the solemn British accent. QL was being too informal in many parts of the movie which was detracting from the actual documentary...

reply

Just a small point: she wasn't billed as the narrator, as that would imply an impartial account accompanying a factual series of events. She is in fact billed as the "story teller" and, for that purpose, she probably matches the credibility of the rest of the film.
